finally got internet. how's London? or was it somewhere else in England?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-10-27 08:35:33 +0000 UTC]

It's actually Colchester, which isn't that far from London!!

Anyway, it's been going good so far!! Though I think today I'm finally going to figure out what essay topics I need to work on for the next month!! The classes are relatively small compared to what I am used too, well, except for the Intro to Film class, that's pretty big!! But otherwise the classes have been very interesting and both my professor, TAs, and fellow peers have been very nice!!

Also my room mates have been nice too! Thankfully the evenings have been quiet...well, for the most part last night was louder than usual because one room mate had friends over ha ha.Β

I still get homesick though. A lot. I don't think that's going to go away anytime soon. But I'm trying to keep myself busy so I don't feel sad all the time!!Β

If you want, I can send you a link to my travel blog! That has tons of updates about what I've been doing and where I've gone so far!!

I'd love to see your travel blog! it does sound super exciting.Β  I would love to go to the UK XD also it's probsbly a valuable experience for your future in general.

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-10-28 08:16:09 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha thank!! I don't have that much on the blog yet, especially since I'll get too busy trying to figure out school work and stuff that I'll forget to post something, but I eventually do ha ha!Β

England has been great so far. Despite the homesickness, but I am hoping it won't bother me for the whole year.

Anyway, here's the link to my travel blog: shannonstravelcorner.wordpress…

I hope you enjoy!! Β

Indeed! I would highly recommend checking it out if you're ever in England!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-11-02 14:59:39 +0000 UTC]

I sure will. I've wanted to go to the UK for a while now. XD it must be pretty cool even with the homesickness. is your family planning on visiting you at all?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-11-02 15:58:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it is a really beautiful country! Rather expensive compared to Canada though so definitely try to save your pennies like I tried my best to do!! XD

I don't think they plan on visiting until the very end. So far I think the plan is coming to pick me up from the University, and doing a bit of traveling before we all head home. However, I do intend to visit relatives who happen to live here in England! Particularly during the Christmas season, which should be nice!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-11-05 22:00:50 +0000 UTC]

well that'll be nice to be able to show your family around. show off your knowledge a bit and whatnot. also I never considered that things might be more expensive there. did you know before you went or did you just find out when you got there. I certainly hope you didn't get that unpleasant surprise.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-11-05 22:46:06 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha yeah that is true!!Β

I already had an idea that things would be more expensive here. My family at home also made sure to remind me of this fact multiple times ha ha. So it was still a surprise to a degree but I could have been even more surprised I suppose.

The one thing I'm worried about is how I might react to my first marks once I've finished writing papers. Because they grade thing differently here in England. Like, 75 is an equivalent to an A+/ super good mark and therefore shouldn't expect to get anything that high. So yeah that might take some getting used to!! But, I have to actually write the papers first ha ha! I'll be working on those all week and for the rest of this month!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-11-06 00:40:17 +0000 UTC]

oh wow. that marking system sounds really odd...like how does that even work? also at least you weren't too surprised. though I can understand why you might be a little culture shocked anyway by the price of things. not to mention the exchange rate and what not. that would just confuse the hell out of me. anyway, it must take some getting used to. just the whole thing in general. moving so far away and having to get used to a new....everything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-11-06 07:10:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I am not quite sure how it works either!! But I am hoping that it won't be too confusing and either professors or other students will clarify anything if I'm still confused!Β

Yes. It is a lot of stuff to take in all at once! But so far I've been alright. I just try to focus on my work, that way I don't have to think about my homesickness or things like that for too long!!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-11-09 00:45:03 +0000 UTC]

probably a good thing to do. and hey. at least you have the internet to keep you somewhat connected to home. I can't imagine living abroad without it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-11-09 07:58:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that is the one thing I am really grateful for. I think I would have been absolutely miserable if I didn't have some form of connection home. Sure, I love getting letters and things, but it just isn't the same as something like Skype!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-02 15:50:06 +0000 UTC]

yeah talking to someone on skype is pretty close to a face to face cnversation. at least you can feel like you're in the same room. I skype with my Dad a lot which is nice since I don't really get to seem him very much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-02 19:13:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah exactly!! It's really nice to be able to do that I find. I actually skyped with my entire family the other night. It was good to see them especially if the homesickness gets a bit worse some days compared to others.Β

It's nice to hear that you get to skype with your Dad!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-03 19:14:49 +0000 UTC]

it's good to hear you've been able to skype with your family too. I mean. at least I'm not living across the ocean. I could always hop on a train to go see my Dad if I had a couple days off. it's not quite as easy for you though D:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-03 20:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha no, that is true I can't get on a train or plane to go back home. Way too expensive!! But that's what Skype is there for and it is almost just as good as being home. Almost!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-04 00:54:53 +0000 UTC]

well that's good. it's a good experience anyway. I'm sure you'll have a tonne of stories when you get back.

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-04 07:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha yes that is definitely true! In fact I have to head down to London today for a class trip, and I always see going to London as some kind of adventure!! Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-05 03:06:12 +0000 UTC]

it must be really cool to go to London. is it true that it rains there a heck of a lot?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-05 07:45:24 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I haven't been rained on when going to London!! There might have been a bit of drizzling rain the first time I went there, but otherwise, both London and where I am studying have had a surprising lack of rain!! But apparently that's normal in this particular corner of England!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-16 14:45:41 +0000 UTC]

oh wow. I had no idea. XD they always say London is so rainy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-16 15:41:07 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha yeah! Well I have only been to London twice so far. So I cannot say that I just happened to visit on rather good days!! Who knows! XDΒ

I will say one thing, if it isn't rainy over here it's certainly windy!! I really do wish it would snow. I miss snow.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-20 01:47:48 +0000 UTC]

oh god we got like two feet of snow in one night in Oakville. it was a nightmare. I had to walk in it to get to work and I came in just covered in snow. ifΒ  I could give you some of our snow. I so would

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-20 09:25:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh my goodness!! Wow, that is a lot of snow for one night!! That must have really sucked, walking through all that to get to work!Β

Ha ha I think I would be the only one thanking you if you happened to send over some of the snow!! XDΒ

DanFourth In reply to Ghostgirl-Shanika [2013-12-20 15:28:45 +0000 UTC]

lmao probably. we have a lot of it. and everyone in Oakville is a huge baby about it. I keep getting people coming into work all whiney about how winter came too early. it's friggin December!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghostgirl-Shanika In reply to DanFourth [2013-12-20 18:52:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, how come people are complaining about snow in December?? We usually get snow as early as November or even October some years don't we? Ah well I guess despite being Canadian some people just don't like snow *shrugs*Β
