After seeing the SteamPunk Enterprise, any thoughts on SteamPunk Star Wars?

Thanks for writing. I won't be working on a Steampunk version of Star Wars, but my friend Fred Perry did. Check out the Steam Wars comic at your comic shops. There will be a free one out on Free Comic Book Day in May.

Howdy,

MY name is Dallas. We met briefly at the Space City. You were kind enough to give my lil brother a set of the "zombie kid" books. Β We thank you once again. However, i really want to throw compliments at you about all of your art. From your little cartoony stuff, to the giant full detailed, tight linework. Its all exemplary. We shall be investigating more of your projects.Β

I'm holding an art contest featuring my friend and am taking the time to invite the folks I have on Watch to participate. I know that a working pro like yourself probably doesn't have the time or inclination for such things but I thought it might be worth a shot. Maybe you're between projects.

If you think you might be even slightly interested, feel free to click the link in my signature and check it out. If it isn't your type of thing, I completely understand and do apologize for bothering you.

I've been blown away by your Adobe Illustrator Technique, and your drawings. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I have a question for you. When using illustrator, do you limit how close you zoom in?

I haven't quite got a feel for how close I should bother zooming in. Sometimes I wonder if I'm going in too close, when fixing up some details.

As part of an upcoming exhibition, artists are invited to participate by creating trading card designs for The Fitcilitator, a superhero who helps people of all ages pass the President's Fitness Challenge.
[link]
fan page for The Fitcilitator

The front of the card should feature an image of The Fitcilitator, and the back should have some sort of accompanying text, whether it is recounting a piece back-story about The Fitcilitator (powers, weaknesses, nemeses, alter ego, side kick, lair, etc), some important statistics, or something else entirely. Artists have the freedom to make up anything they like. The only known facts about The Fitcilitator include her attire (see reference photo album listed below) and her goal, which is helping people with the President's Challenge.

The 10 best cards will be published as a limited edition set of trading cards, and those 10 artist will receive a set of the trading cards, while the top 25 designs will be published in an exhibition catalog. The trading cards measure 2.5"x3.5". Your image file should measure 2.75"x3.75" and allow .125" on each side for trim. The recommended file formats are PSD, AI or TIFF. The recommended resolution is 1024x768 or 300 DPI at 2.75"x3.75".

Please view the online gallery of source images for inspiration.

Brian, I have a general question (thank you, by the way, for all the really great advice here and on your blog). Why do you seem to have a preference for the pencil tool in Illustrator over the pen tool? I'm just now starting to learn Illustrator, so I'm pretty clueless. Thanks in advance if you have the time to answer that!
