Hmm..."the Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis, "The King of Attolia" by Megan Whalen Turner, "The Silver Branch" and "The Shining Company" by Rosemary Sutcliff, and "Hind's Feet on High Places" by Hannah Hunnard. All favorites, all re-reads. You?

neat for me: Taliesin by Stephen Lawhead, and Just Jane by Nancy Moser *that might not be her correct first name (gotta double check), and also Oval Office Oddities (a great book about the presidents)

Ooh, I love Taliesin! That book had so many beautiful silvery moments. Never read "Just Jane." That's cool!

have you ever read the Russians series by Michael Phillips and Judith Pella or the Bright Empires Series by S. Lawhead? Those are really good. Also, Rick Riordan's series.

Darkliss In reply to Historybuff262 [2013-04-12 04:30:46 +0000 UTC]
No, I'll have to look those up! I usually like Lawhead, but he's a little dark. And I LOVE Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson and crew ftw!!!

well Bright Empires is a little more on the humorous side (not to serious, but a little bit sometimes); it is a good series.

yeah, it is fun.
well, school just started about 2 weeks ago, so getting back into the swing of that,
how about you? I saw in your journal you were reading Amy Carmichael, is that a biography about her or did she actually write a book?

Darkliss In reply to Historybuff262 [2012-08-30 18:26:04 +0000 UTC]
Yup, school started this week for me. Fun stuff. I think my brain might explode from all the information, but we shall see.
The full title of the book is "Amy Carmichael of Dohnavur" but it wouldn't let me fit all of it in the space. She actually did write her own books about her mission work, but I unfortunately have not yet laid hands upon any copies of said books.

and yeah, information overload bleckk. (but school's not too bad. I'm actually speaking a little more French and reading it a bit better I think.)

No, thank you for writing it! It was a lovely poem, especially the references to the Highwayman and the Lady of Shalott. I'm a huge sucker for Gil and Anne, and I was looking up L.M. Montgomery stuff (there's very little, unfortunately) and discovered your lovely poem. Thank you for favoriting some of my pieces and commenting on my journal article...I'm honored that you took the time.

Yes, you must do more Prydain pictures! I love the ones you've drawn so far. There isn't nearly enough Prydain art out there.

I agree! I hope they're still popular books - they deserve to be! Any thoughts on which character I should tackle next?

Darkliss In reply to Kostmeyer [2012-03-05 14:08:12 +0000 UTC]
They do deserve to be popular, still! Hmm...Flewddur Fflam and Llyan, his giant cat, are great fun as characters. My personal favorite is Prince Rhun, who shouldn't have died. And there are never (and never will be) enough sketches of either Taran or Eilonwy.

I know what you mean! I was really upset when I read Rhun's death the first time! Flewddur and Llyan is a great idea!
