There are still some of us out here doing it, but it gets more difficult every year.

Yeah my dad was going to try to get in it. He's a good artist but it looks like alot more time goes into those pieces.

Mmm you  have hidden my earlier comment and link about the vile ivory trade. Now I am judging you.

I hid your earlier comment, because i have been having these "discussions" for over 25 years now. I have read the information and done my due diligence and come to my own conclusions. Nothing that is said between us is going to change either person's mind. I respect your opinion, and your right to your opinion, and will not argue with you so I deleted your comment. I will answer your question though. I know that the elephant ivory that I use is pre-ban, because I personally purchased it before the ban. I rarely use elephant ivory. I have under than 20 pounds of elephant ivory, less than one average sized tusk, in my entire career. I have a few small pieces left and will use them when the right project comes along. The majority of my work, as well as that of most other scrimshanders, is on ancient mammoth and walrus ivory. This ivory is found in the ground and is from animals that died thousands of years ago. Your problem shouldn't be with the handful of scrimshanders working today. The biggest threat to the elephants is the social, political and economic unrest in Africa and the huge market in Asia for ivory carvings.
