I guessed that it could be a scenario like 'you don't have anything to do, but do at the same' sort of thing.

No, he's like "Okay, lesson for today." and gives us a few examples, and everyone asks questions and it takes up the whole period and then he just gives us homework and leaves out half of the lesson. So we have to figure it out. And then the next day he'll ignore the lesson from the previous day and go onto something completely different, and leave us confused. And now I'm doing review and I don't understand half the stuff, or even remember some of it because we hardly covered it.

Errrrrrgh... I dunno what to tell you. Have you tried going in after school to try and get extra help understanding? Or maybe talking to a school counselor about it?
