It could be part of the 1950s greaser!AU maybe. Like Jean and his gang are all super cool cats and hang out in the junkyard after school but Jean's failing math and he needs to get at least a C to graduate and some of his cronies are like "That Marco kid's pretty smart why don't you make him help you" and Jean's "ughhh" because he's a nerd but he really needs to pass so he basically corners Marco on his way home from school when no one else is around and essentially demands help (even though Jean really doesn't mean to be that intimidating or rude he just has a hard time asking nicely because he's so used to being A Tough Guy so he's actually just really tsundere about asking) and to Jean's surprise Marco doesn't cower but instead lashes back at him for being rude and asshole-ish and Jean is just "WHOA WHOA WHOA LITTLE GUY I JUST NEEDED HELP" and Marco's "Then WHY didn't you just try asking NORMALLY and maybe I'd consider" and Jean begrudgingly tries to be nice about itΒ (maybe stressed how desperate he is to pass and even offered money)Β and eventually Marco becomes his tutor but he has an attitude of "this blockheaded punk I swear Marco what have you gotten yourself into" but Jean starts learning from him slowly but surely and Marco sees how stupidly excited Jean gets when he figures out a problem and then quickly tries to hide his excitement by adjusting his his jacket collar or smoothing his hair and Jean, in turn, goes from only wanting to meet in private and not associate at all at school to brief head nods in the halls and when they're working on homework together Jean admires the way Marco's forehead creases when he's concentrating and how he looks good in his reading glasses and no no no HELL NO what was that thought? N o.... and.
