Wait You Make Flash Games?

... I am taking a college class in making Flash games, so yes. I will probably make one more flash game (a fighting game, like Street Fighter) but after that... I would prefer not to work with Flash/ActionScript. I am hoping they will teach us the Unity engine next Semester. In the past they had been using Torque, but I'm hoping they will switch. They also have the Source Engine, but I'm not sure how Source's licensing policies are. But I digress.
Flash really isn't that horrible, but I don't like that even if your code compiles it sometimes still won't run properly - artwork won't show up - because you didn't name an instance or symbol or class or something right in one of several different "properties" boxes. That seems like something that should generate a compiler error and inform you of where you went wrong.
Also, I am very very slow making 2D art - especially when perspective is involved. Slow enough that making a 3D model in Maya makes much more sense - once it's done I can rig it and animate it and use it forever and don't have to worry about the angles.
