I would go to a gallery to see your art. I feel like it is the kind of work that excels on a gallery wall. Great stuff.

No, I feel they have more merit than you suggest. I've looked at them a few times over the past months. Some innate quality there. Simple but special.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your photos of papua new guinea so much. My boyfriend lived there for most of his life and i find it such a fascinating culture. I can't wait to visit the country, unfortunately i'm a student living the other side of the world, so lack of money stops me. But i hope to go there soon, always seems to me that so many people overlook PNG, this side of the world at least.
Best of luck in all that you do.

Hi Christina,
Thanks for your comments about my Papua New Guinea photos. I lived there from 1967 [when it was still controlled by Australia] until 1981. In those days, it was a relatively peaceful place. Unfortunately, It is now a very dangerous and violent country, especially in the towns and cities and especially for girls and women. The government and most politicians have become very corrupt, the police are lazy and inactive and are probably involved in criminal activities and so the people generally have a very troubled life. It's a pity because although this country has so much potential as a tourist spot, it attracts so few visitors. I have never been back but I treasure my experiences there.

Hello DenisMurrell. My name is Tishiana Mann and I'm a 9th grade student at John W. North high school in Riverside, CA. I am doing a school project about the families and youth in Papua New Guinea and my aunt reccomended I look at your gallery for some visuals and examples of all the people over there. They are amazing photos, the ones dated 11/22/06 through 11/23/06, as are all of your work. But I was wondering if you could give me permission to print some of these photos as a part of my project. Due to the rules and regulations of copyright policies, it is solely up to you to let me use these photos and put them on display. I assure you I will not be selling them or making any profit from them and I assure you I won't be taking credit as the photographer either. I could print a watermark on the requested photos with your name or your DeviantART link, if you'd like. Just please let me know if it's OK with you, the photographer of these photos, by emailing me or writing back. My email adress is: tishianakristen@hotmail.com
Also, if you don't give me permission to print your amazing PNG photos, I fully understand. No pressure. Just please get back to me ASAP, if you could. Thank you.

Wow thanks! If you could send a few more through email, it would be awesome! Again, my email is tishianakristen@hotmail.com. Thank you so much. Oh, by the way, in your email, could you make it clear that you gave me your permission to print your photos? Some printing companies, if not all, are very strict about those kind of things. One time, they wouldn't sell me the photos I ordered to print because I didn't have the negatives to prove they were mine. It was so uncalled for. But thank you again. I hope to visit PNG one day. It looks like an azaming place..

Just thought of something else. If you go to
[link]
and search for Papua New Guinea
you'll get loads of great pics. Much better than mine. You could search for Macau too and see where i live now!

Hi,
I haven't lived there for many years. It's a very very dangerous place nowadays....lots of violent crime. So unfortunate. Also lots of corruption, bad government, etc. Almost a failed state. I used to be a teacher there. Now I live in Macau which is on the south coast of China. By the way, you can read the Papua New Guinea Post Courier newspaper at
[link] It is issued every day and you can read past issues as well.

Where in PNG did you live? Did you live in the area where all those pictures were took? Or when you say, corruption, do you mean in the urban city areas? I've always wondered where the line between rural and urban in PNG was.

I lived in six different towns including the capital city Port Moresby. I owned a small hotel there for a while. I also taught for the Education department, the Health Department and the Agriculture Department. I took pics wherever I lived using an old Mamiya twins lens camera. There is corruption in every aspect of government [inc the police and the army] and in private business too. Politicians are really very corrupt. It wasn't like that when I lived there because Australia was still in charge then. Independence came in 1975. There is one largish city, a smaller city, and a lot of small towns like Alotau, Kavieng and Goroka. Then there are tiny towns like Ukurumpa and Telefomin and Buin and finally, there are thousands of native rural villages which are usually quite peaceful, especially on the coast. The towns can be wild like Mt Hagen or very peaceful like Alotau. Port Moresby and Lae are extremely dangerous. You need to totally secure your apartment and hire body guards to accompany you when you go out at night. It's certainly no place for women and girls. Lots of single people live in the two biggest cities as well as lots of unemployed people who drift in from the villages. Guns were unavailable when I lived there but now they are very common and so that adds to the danger. I feel sorry about what has happened to Papua New Guinea and I have never returned since I left 25 years ago. As you can see a lot of cultural traditions are still carried on, especially at schools, and that's a nice aspect of the country.

Sorry for the slow responses...I am snowed under with orders at the moment for the casinos here and from the Macau government. Not much time to use the net. I'll get around to this as soon as I can. Happy to [eventually] play a part in your group.
