Little known story about that, back then I was known as Hacker Virus back then well The Hacker Virus(thv) since there was one other going by hackervirus but he now heads up the ggz project.
And to answer you yes, that was the name of the public release by Dark Avenger and his VCL toolkit. Which wasn't until the '91. but its been around also known as 'brain', 'hacker', and 'denzuk' retrospectively since 1988.

haha, i used to get denzuko a lot back then, kinda cool tho when everytime i restart me pc, a 'Denzuko' text appear full screen..
i thought itwas a program or some sort, didnt knew it was a virus..not until late 80's , i was a 5 years old back then lol..
