e.o Don't know about the gifted part, but went through those realizations last year-ish (not sure). Never went down the road of depression though, probably cause my family has quite a bit of pets. Although your awareness of such things like hypocrisy may make you feel helpless because people repeating things over and over, it should make you a better person and prevent yourself from doing the things you dislike when other people do. And if you're feeling down because of the fact that you're just a tiny bit of the universe and your existence does not appear to be significant, then just remember that even if you cant directly affect the whole entire universe you can still affect the worlds of people around you, and for them that's is everything.
Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to help you with your crisis by giving you my view of things. This may not be true, but it's how I see hings for now.
