With that huge earthquake taking out the japanese reactors right and left, the radiation might cause a form of cancer similar to the 'solanum virus'. But I think that's a touch of a long shot. Plus it'd suck so very much if the zombies started in japan.

Eben if that disease did start, and theoretically it might, brain cells, the main things controlling the nervous system, die really fast with no oxygenated blood. So only the really recent ones will be able to actually move. And considering that in 8 minutes one person dies (on average), that won't be too many. And if this somehow forces muscles to move, then we'll have to count on muscle decay, which happens in about 3 weeks without protein in a normal body. It's faster in a dead body, so still, very few zombies.

XD I agree to your logic; the solanum virus is completely impossible in the way it's explained. My theory for the most likely situation is it destroys the frontal lobe and damages the hypothalamus and nervous system. Like a venomous snake bite or stroke. The virus (guessing by popular culture) is transfered through fluids, thus the "be bitten and become one of them" deal. There's a cancer in Tasmanian devils going about that's like that. A blood cell can make a full circuit through the body in 4 minutes, so it spreading into a major epidemic in a matter of hours is a possibility.... As for the only way to kill them being destruction of the brain, I don't know.

If it works like a stroke, than most bodies would have to be strong enough to resist it, right? After all, not everybody has strokes.

If that happens with the Tasmanian Devils and not us, then it would have to mutate, much like the common cold. ...Which, I frankly don't see happening.
