Yeah, I'm hanging in there. It gets kinda boring, though. XD Funny thing with IT support is that when things are going well, you don't have much to do. I'd still rather be working than be a student, though. Seems only last year that I graduated and was wondering how the hell I can apply my English major to something I wanna do... oh wait it was last year. Ick.

I was getting sick of being a college student, too. I wanted to work for once, but at the same time I was dreading it because I had to WORK (gross). I still prefer this over being a student, though. Studying was the worst. Technically I'm still applying my English major by writing, and also doing a volunteer adult literacy tutoring thing (give back to the community and earn some karmic brownie points), but I've stopped assuming it'll be my primary breadmaker. Maybe, maybe, way down the line, but right now I'm pretty content doing IT. I'm just starting out so I'm mostly a 'baby tech', but I seem to be doing okay and it's a much more stable, decently-paid, and, let's face it, respectable field than writing stories. Not to mention how some of those stories are fanfics, and making cash off those is a crapshoot. I had considered getting a master's for English in grad school, but like I said, I don't feel like being a student again. I'm working full-time, and do I really NEED a master's for the kind of stuff I wanna do? It'd be nice to have, but I can't justify the time and effort and money needed to get it. Too lazy.Β It's not completely out of the question, though. I just need to find a good enough opportunity and excuse. Hopefully you'll have better luck with your geology field. Science-y fields are usually more reliable than good ol' liberal arts.

Well, at least it's a job. A good paying job, so you'll be able to support yourself. But you're still able to apply your degree with that volunteer program, and who knows? Maybe you'll write something cool one day. Keep doing NaNoWriMo! As for me, I'm still drawing and geology.
Geology degrees in Texas are actually pretty good, since oil industries need geologists.

Dracozombie In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2016-01-29 20:27:09 +0000 UTC]
It's a job, which I'm grateful for, but it's not all that high-paying. XD I don't make enough to support myself, at least in this area, where the cheap end of any semi-decent apartment (read: has bedrooms and isn't in an area where half the population is hobos) is like 90% of my paycheck. I do intend to write something cool, I'm just not anticipating to pay for any hobo-infested apartments with it. I'm not sure about the NaNoWriMo anymore. Anytime I try it I just get stuck, because I guess I care more about quality over quantity. I know the objective is to just write, but if 40,000 out of 50,000 words is meaningless drivel, why bother to have written it at all?
At least you're in an area where your field is in high demand. I'm lucky that I'm in demand pretty much anywhere that has computers, but not everyone has the luck where their interests/abilities line up with what's profitable for the area. Hooray for hope!

Oh right you live in California. Yeah I'm very familiar with the ridiculous prices of houses and apartments here. Strife's shown me enough for me to be very glad I live here in Texas where prices are cheap. Like that one home in San Francisco that's 400,000 dollars and right next to a toxic waste dump.
Stay hopeful!

Good ones.
Do you mean fandom-wise? Well, currently my active fandoms are in Kingdom Hearts, Megaman, and Five Nights at Freddy's. Inactive-but-still-valid fandoms are Final Fantasy, Pokemon, My Little Pony, and maybe a few more I don't remember at the top of my head. So chances are if your fanfic isn't from one of those fandoms, I won't read it.

I don't even know why I need to ask this... But you know how people tend to say "still a better love story than Twilight"? Do you think people would say the same about Fifty Shades of Grey, or do you think FSoG is the new "still a better love story than -insert title here-"?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dracozombie In reply to MrTwinklehead [2015-03-03 20:37:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, Twilight came first so it's the go-to example for awful romances. It has seniority, especially in regards to Fifty Shades of Grey, which originated as an AU Twilight fanfic that somehow got published. You can argue that FSoG is the new Twilight, but "Better love story than Twilight" rolls off the tongue better than "Better love story than Fifty Shades of Grey."

MrTwinklehead In reply to Dracozombie [2015-03-06 18:17:02 +0000 UTC]
So which do you think is the better love story? I mean I haven't read any of them so I don't really know anything about them besides what I've been told.

Dracozombie In reply to MrTwinklehead [2015-03-07 00:37:05 +0000 UTC]
I'm actually in the same boat. If I had to pick one, I'd say Twilight. I mean, better to butcher a fictional relationship between a human and a vampire, than butcher a real world BDSM relationship.

Technically, most any opportunity would require me to wake up at the crack of dawn or somewhere close to it, because most jobs start early.Β It's mainly because of the hour-and-a-half commute there.Β Freakin' traffic. >.> But it's basically a content writing gig to help promote small businesses.Β I'll stick around for a while but there's no way this is going to be a permanent arrangement for me, not when my fully-employed coworkers reported none of them were making livable wages...

Yes I spent goodness knows how long on MMKB only to compile a list of all the Robot Masters and 'Robot Masters' out in all of the canon by creator. Along with some of my OCs that you can ignore. I need a life.
There were some things that surprised me. Like Cold Man.

Shit man we didn't hear anything about Coldman being on Dr. Light's side.Β This honestly adds a surprising layer to (head)canon: how many other Robot Masters built by Dr. Light are out there that we don't know of?Β The 1 and 9 bots are the most prominent, but I kinda figured they were the primary face of the Light bot family.

Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci In reply to Dracozombie [2014-04-29 01:41:07 +0000 UTC]
It does make for interesting headcanon. Like, who knows how many of the unknown creator robot masters there are that are actually Light's and makes the "Light Robot OC" thing very plausible.

Dracozombie In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-04-29 02:51:51 +0000 UTC]
Crap, canon gives Suethors an excuse. D:Β Come to think of it, there's no indication as to how many Robot Masters there are in the world.Β I've always assumed they were a minority compared to mass-produced things like metools and mechaniloids (and the future Reploids), since I can't imagine they're easy to make or maintain.Β I think revelations like Coldman once being Dr. Light's are so unknown is because fans generally divide the Robot Masters by generation i.e. by game.Β It's easy to assume Coldman is a Wily or King bot since & Bass doesn't feature the Light bots.
All this talk about unknown Robot Masters is actually inspiring me to make, of all things, my own Megaman OC: Plaguewoman.Β I got inspired by those creepy plague doctors with the bird-like masks.Β She was created to handle epidemics and quarantines, usually in third world countries, so she's programmed with an extensive knowledge of medicine and disease.Β She also has an intellectual fascination with recovery and suffering.Β She's not sadistic by any means, but she generally takes a very passionate approach to the concept and how it affects others, and this fascination even extends to her fellow robots.Β Given her personality and appearance, she typically creeps other people out, and her... eccentric creator doesn't help any.

Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci In reply to Dracozombie [2014-04-29 04:06:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I mean, even Archie develops it to where there's more than just Light, Wily, and Cossack around. Though that's why my OC scientists tended to collaborate on their work, because it's a lot easier to develop robots when there's more than one person working on them. As for the generation by game... well, I tend to mark those games as more development of the level of robotics. And that's just the main games, not including MM&B. Though Archie has had character 'break' the release dates on their robots.
Darnit you got me thinking of how I'd draw Plague Woman! xD That's a classy design, I mean of COURSE you'd have the classic bird mask and hat they normally have. However since plague doctors have long robes and such, I would give her more of a Komuso Man approach with the arm design being more sleevelike. Not sure about the legs though.
That's what I find with most Robot Master and what they lack in a design. It's like keeping it Mega Man like, but modeling it like what their theme is short of slapping their weapon on their forehead of course. Glacier Woman, for example, is modeled after a modern ice climber (with the spike boots, the mask used to protect your face from the snow, and the helmet being like a ski helmet). None of my other robots have a specific theme but that's cause they're different. Especially Theresa (Yeah she's still around).

Dracozombie In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-04-29 04:34:45 +0000 UTC]
It actually surprised me when they revealed Plantman's creator.Β Dr. Light, Wily, Cossack, and LaLinde seem to be at the top of the game when it comes to robotics, so they're probably good enough to function on their own.Β The more "normal," relatively-lesser-but-still-great creators out there would probably have to work together.Β That's something I think Archie beats the other adaptations in, including Ariga--there's a whole ton of world building and expansion in a canon that amounts to shooting stuff until it explodes.Β An idea to support the games as markers for robotic progression, is in the Robot Masters' designs.Β In the first three games or so, they're pretty simple in comparison to the, well, louder designs in 7, 8, and & Bass.Β Compare Iceman and Magicman in terms of the details of design.Β There's a prominent difference.Β If we're going by that theory, I wonder what prompted shifts in conventional design.Β Is there a practical reason for it, or do people just want to be more artistic?
I thought of Plaguewoman not long ago and I tried drawing her as soon as I got the idea.Β I got as far as her mask because I had no idea how to translate those robes into armor. XD But Komuso Man seems like a good start for inspiration.Β I personally tried giving her a robe-like skirt, but then it'd be hard to showcase the typical robo boots.Β Heh, thinking of themes is part of the fun of making Robot Master OCs.Β In fact, it's so fun that I think a lot of people, including myself, sometimes forget the robot doesn't necessarily have to be based on a specific theme.

And the funny thing is in MM10 and 11 they sort of downgrade in style. I know it's cause they went down to 8Bot style but still. That's going to be hard to explain in canon.
Yeah, specific themes are a bit silly, especially when you have their own creator to worry about. After all Rock and Roll have no theme and whatever Bass is I dunno.Tess and Tim were designed more as civilians/kids more than anything, and same goes with Sine.
π: 0 β©: 1
Dracozombie In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-04-29 16:04:52 +0000 UTC]
The only headcanon I can think of for the shift in design is that styles change over time--I guess flashier bots were "in" around the time of 7/8/Bass--but like all fads, it died down and designs became relatively simpler, shown in MM9 and 10.Β Or maybe people became a little more comfortable around Robot Masters (ignoring the 10+ wars involving them) so people felt they could be a little more artsy.Β Or something.
I don't think they're silly, per se, in the sense that robots are built with specific purposes in mind.Β It'd make sense their designs would reflect that.Β Rock, Roll, and Bass don't have specific themes, but their names all have a musical theme.Β Robots like them, whose names/designs don't necessarily reflect their purpose, are probably more the exception than the rule.
π: 0 β©: 1
Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci In reply to Dracozombie [2014-04-29 16:17:35 +0000 UTC]
Hah just like Tmagotchis. Those were popular back when I was in Elementary school. Besides, I feel simple designs are easier to handle and thank goodness most of the complex robots are mostly Wily's. I tend to pin most of my Robots are the MM6-7 Era either way.
Yeah. Plus, most of my characters have names that reflect their theme, with it not really being like ___ Man/Woman. Enker, Ballade, and Punk are all musical names but their function is being the Mega Man Killers, and Quint is... a special case in on his own. Even with my OCs, Quicksilver obv. has liquid metal ability, Midnight Runner is well... a Shadow Bot. Theresa and Tim are the only true exceptions to all of the rules, being versed in translation, but what the heck do you call someone who can translate languages. x'D

Don't forget Beanie Babies and Furbies.Β It might be a blessing my parents never got one for me because I hear they never shut up.Β (Totally relevant, watch one being microwaved .)Β I can't really think of practical purposes for the flashier designs outside of, well, flashiness.Β I've heard one or two people say they like the MM5-6 era Robot Masters the best since they strike the best balance of distinct and simple.
Speech Woman?Β Omniglot Woman?Β Language Woman?Β Yeah, they don't have much ring to them.
