and if they found happiness

someone once wrote
i wonder what happened to the writer
and the person they wrote about
we leave these trails
of our lives behind us
yes probably nothing special
though sometimes i follow
hoping to see better days
rather than finding fading fragments
like ghosts disappearing into the fog
i can already picture the day
when the fog overtakes the both of us
if you are able to find a better home
i will try to be happy for you
though i would probably still wish
you lingered with me a little longer

from time to time
maybe it will fade with the years
for what were we but two among billions
thrown together by circumstance
could we have been anybody else
yet its strange how such memories linger
special only because it happened to us
a sweet drink to remember a moment in time
a bitter drink to think what might have been
if not for the inconvenience of time and space
two cars once met on a road at night
driving shoulder to shoulder because they desired
then leaving one another to complete their journeys
had one or the other been a few minutes late
they would have spent their journeys with different companions
i still think about you
from time to time
a sweet drink to remember a moment in time
maybe it will fade with the years

just when you thought you had reached the sunlight
the songs of darkness drag you back
tendrils gripping your mind
poisoning your heart
we cover our ears
run from the singers
but it is too late
they have already reached inside
and control us with their lyrics
this is the wrong concert
we were given the wrong tickets
where is the one we wanted
where is the home we truly belong
somewhere beyond the toxic drumbeats
i fear we will never find it
but i will pick up these guitars
one for you and one for me
and we will play our own song here
louder than all the rest as well
