Cross-stitching. It's a type of embroidery that uses grids that you sew little X's into in order to create the image. I was taught how to do it in 7th grade home economics and never really let it go.

oh cool. :0 i did something like that before in 8th grade but you used a piece of plastic as quidelines or something. i made it into a cat ^^ what'd you cross-stich it into? :3

They gave us (and I use) fabric, but it's like weird grid fabric. I only see it in craft stores. since they make somewhat pixelated I decided to try it out on some Pokemon sprites.
