I use the pen tool, but I don't use it in the way you are thinking. Like umm that confusing way. It's really easy. If you look at their pentool tutorial, you will see it's easy.

Well, I was looking through tutorials for photoshop so I can "get better" if that's what you can call it(lol), and I found this one I thought was cool, though mine didn't turn out the "exact" same way as the site's sample.
They also have a good vector tutorial, but since it takes almost 16 + hours to do, I'm not finished w/ mine yet. lol
