I fear Fiends is out of the picture entirely before the C&D but if it was around it probably would have gone a similar way. It was fun while it lasted but that's just how things go.

Too bad. I still play the demo from time to time, and enjoy it immensely, even sometimes stretching the window to extreme aspect ratios to see more of the world.
Now that it's well and truly gone, I'd like to see someone write up the storyline as a fic. I'm sure it would get a feature on EqD, for the notoriety at least.

You should check the C&D letter again. Did it come in an E-mail? If it did, then it is about 90% fake since a real C&D is sent by mail, not E-mail.

We do not have a particular office or any place to be reached by mail. Electronic Email was the only place they could have reached us-and a trustworthy source did vouch for it being from the same department he contacted prior.

There is a bit of good news. the Mane6 team could remove the characters already in the game. Lauren Faust, the creator of MLP, is offering to remake the game by letting thr group use her OCs. Her Tweet on the matter is here. [link]

If, somehow, a deal were to be worked out with Hasbro that allows development to continue, would you be willing (or able) to return? Also, what is your impression of the likelihood of such a deal being worked out, assuming you can say of course?

In my opinion, I suspect a deal would have been extremely unlikely. The game couldn't be marketed to their target audience and they ultimately would gain nothing from taking the risk. Even if a deal was made Hasbro would most likely require major control over the final product.
