Pneumonia
This is not usually seen upon arrival but can occur after an inexperienced person has fed an animal and repeatedly aspirated the animal. Aspiration happens when the squirrel drinks too fast and the fluid goes up into its nose, and sometimes into the lungs. If it gets into the lungs, then pneumonia can result.
If a baby does aspirate the liquid, you will see it bubble out of his nose. To prevent this from causing pneumonia, immediately tip the baby forward so that his head is down. Hold him securely and allow the fluid to drain out of the nose. There is no need to pat the back, as there is nothing to dislodge. Let gravity remove the fluids. When the baby is calm again and the nose is clear, resume the feeding.
Sometimes pneumonia will happen in spite of your efforts. Symptoms of pneumonia can be a clicking sound in the throat area, open mouth breathing, or a runny or congested nose. If these symptoms are present, take the animal to a veterinarian or an experience wildlife rehabilitator immediately.

Yay hows your summer been going. Mines been kinda stressful lately i found an orphaned squirrel and am taking care of it. And the worst part is the nearest rehibiltation for wildlife is in vancouver and i cant get a hold of them

My summer has been pretty good : ) I've been catching up with some friends of mine who go to different schools, saw Harry Potter (it was AMAZING) and painted my room (finally!). My summer has been stressful too (my sister). That's cute that you're taking care of a squirrel :3 What happened to the squirrel? Where did you find it?

In my back yard bella(chihauha) was licking it. We figure it got knocked during a storm. I warmed him up and tried to see if the mother would find it ( the mother wont take the baby if its cold) waited an hour or so and she never came. And since then i have been careing for him. I have named him chester!

I'm sure Chester is a little fighter : ) He's in good hands : ) That's too bad that we don't have a place that could take a baby squirrel...that's seems odd :/ I know Kamloops has that Wildlife preserve that takes in animals from all over from wolves to deer to zebras

We have a bbird place ( my cat kiled some quails but there where babaies so we had to call the bird man to take them)
