yeah I didn't wanna write too long of a critique on the fei long's kick.ย You are right about tugging the leg in. Also if the front leg can be lifted higher and his toes pointing towards the camera, the kick would look a lot more power. It is just like the two picture that i posted.ย But I think the person cosplaying fei long isn't a martial artist or a dancer, so he lacked the flexibility to do it.

Certainly. It does take a certain amount of body training (whether, as you said, via martial arts or dancing) to get height and power on a kick like that. Dancers would probably be amazing martial artists, don't you think? They already have flexibility, power, and a solid base. In addition they'd have an easier job of emptying their mental cup to accept the training.
