A couple of years ago, we conversed about space probes, and you talked about a possible mission to Europa. I've found a comic strip series where the characters visit Europa:

and continue to June 26 (skip Sundays)
I hope you enjoy it.

Here's something that I've put together after many months of thinking about it on a fairly unknown tumblr blog. You might find it rather interesting:

How to save him, with a single assumption that some really powerful magic being is alive and well somewhere. In such case, the future might not be so grim after all.

Are you familiar with the "Safe Havens" comic strip?
safehavenscomic.com/comics/
It started with kids in a day care center, and unlike most comic strips, they grew up. Now they are adults, with some of them with children of their own.
Anyway, they are planning on a trip to Mars in 2017, and occasionally get a visit from a time traveler.

In case you haven't checked it all out yet, I wanted to give you a few key dates of interest. You need to read forward from these dates:
July 1, 2009 - Samantha's interest in Mars is known to a powerful person (Rose Trellis, from the comic "On The Fastrack")
May 12, 2010 - more about the Mars mission
Sept 15, 2010 - Samantha brings Dodos back from extinction
Nov 4, 2010 - Introduction of Maria
Feb 15, 2011 - Mars Mission planning
Nov 8, 2011 - Dave and Samantha meet up with a historical personnage
Nov 25, 2011 - Maria's special ability (time travel)

I like your i.d. icon--that's a neat picture of Saturn with the rings back-lit. Before that picture came out, I'd heard about the E ring for a long time, but never saw it pictured.
I'm a space exploration enthusiast, and I've kept Astronomy magazine issues since 1979 (Voyager 1 passing Jupiter).

What have been your favorite planetary missions?
And if you could design any mission, what would you like to do?
My favorites were Voyagers 1 & 2, which for the first time gave detail to the outer solar system planets and moons, and also Cassini, with all the views of Saturn and its moons.
If I could do any design, I'd like to explore Titan, with a balloon able to navigate and observe overhead, with lander/ floaters that could explore the lakes.

My favorite mission would have to be Opportunity on Mars, because the thing is still alive after all these years, and it was only expected to last 90 days. Voyager would probably be a close second.
As for mission design, It would be really nice to get a probe onto Europa and then separate into two pieces connected by a really long umbilical. One piece would sit on the surface and communicate data and such with an orbiter, which in turn send it to Earth. The other piece would have a radio isotope generator in its nose. In addition to generating power for its instruments, it would also be able to use the heat from it to melt through the ice. The umbilical (which is kept in the diving portion of the probe) is spooled out from below, so when the ice freezes over it, it doesn't get stuck.

Space art is pretty cool. That link has some pretty interesting stuff in it... at some point I might try to do some images of scenes from novels by Clarke... "Fountains of Paradise" is a favorite of mine...

Opportunity is impressive for its longevity (not to mention its extensive data). Voyagers were designed to last to get to Saturn, which was within 4 years, but I think they are still operating after 38 years, although too far away to provide more than minimum data.
It would be interesting to find out what's below Europa's ice. It's a technical challenge just to land on its surface, what with Jupiter's gravity, radiation, and the lack of atmosphere. But I didn't ask you to stay within a budget!
Do you like space art? I've seen some good items at justv23.deviantart.com/, and it has links to other interesting stuff on that line.
