alright so i thought about marmar's family and came up with some explanations about it

1 - maria's mother isn't mentally instable, making her sound like a bitch to everyone else

2 - he lost his father right after hearing him promising to never leave them, thus causing maria to treasure promsises

3 - his mother isn't that proud of her son, but she does her best to believe that he'll one day, be someone

4 - he spent lots of time with his father, growing more fond of him than his mother, so he wasn't too comfortable around her for a while
