I'm not really sure what the original creator intended,this is just how I interpreted it BTW.......
I see it as a spectrum of emotions/feelings. You notice how ecstasy, rage, amazement, vigilance, loathing, grief, admiration and terror are very strong and powerful feelings?
Then you have pensiveness, boredom, annoyance, interest, serenity, acceptance, apprehension, and distraction are in comparison, less intense versions of those with brighter colors.
The colors gradually get lighter like a scale right?

intense colors = most intense feelings

lightest colors = least intense feelings
