I know exactly what you mean about big Indoensian cities. Indonesia is the type of place where the country is a nicer place to be. All the Cities smell and is pretty freaky for western women. My sister lives in Medan - which is pretty rough at times for white woman. But she also lives in Bukit Lawang where her husband lives and she has a much nicer life there. You should go and visit if you get the chance - its really beautiful jungle place with orang utan reservation and a beautiful river to go tubing on!

My father visited Bukit Lawang once, he said it was really beautiful ^-^ I lived in Bandung for about 9 months... that was nice =] I went into the Kalimantan jungles for a bit also once, the Indonesian countryside really is beautiful =] thanks for the tips, though, I'll try my hardest to get up to Bukit Lawang sometime ^_^
