Hey, you! How are you, lovely lady! Glad to hear you graduated from your program and are doing well. I like to think you are happy and enjoying life. I was lucky enough to be able to move to Iceland in late 2015, so I have been living here and working for an Icelandic company within the same company group as Icelandair. I've enjoyed it immensely, though I want to do my best to make sure Icelandic tourism is developing well and never goes into mass tourism.
How are things going with you? I'd love to hear an update!

What was that other site that was made for fanfics and stories and what not? I think that deviantART might not be the best place I could post my work at.

Hi, just wanted to say, I just read your "Soar into the Sunset" story on ff.net and I absolutely loved it, it's one of the most beautiful stories I've read. I kept reading and re-reading it. I love Toothless' sense of humour and the Turkmene horse and her Rider (I usually don't like OCs). Congratulations!

FjordMustang In reply to ElaineXZ [2016-07-21 22:14:00 +0000 UTC]
Thank you so much, ElaineX2! Your words made my day! I was so happy you liked my silly Heinlein story and some of the short sequels it produced. I really am honored you liked it and took away from it things that made you happy. And thanks for the OC comment. I am not fond of OCs either, so I wanted to make sure these ones existed mainly to support Toothless' character arc. I also have to admit at this time I had been learning about Sarmatians and was amazed by their culture and how they may have influenced our concepts of dragons and armored knights and even Arthurian stories. Plus their bond with horses with really neat (there is historical evidence for this among nomadic horse tribes, and it carries through to modern day Turkmen tribes and their Akhal Teke horse that is the modern day descendent of Turkmenes). That part was a guilty pleasure, but the horse connection also fit in nicley with Chris Evans and Dean DeBlois saying the 1980 film "The Black Stallion" was a huge inspiration on HTTYD. Watch the movie and you can see several scenes that inspired HTTYD. Thank you for taking the time to read my silly stuff, and I am glad you liked it. I hope someday I can finish the other stories...

Hi there. It would fit, though ironically there was some stuff in my fanfic story that wound up showing up in this movie, so that was both amazing and could work against me in writing HTTYD2 fanfiction. My story "Blind Spot" also has some sections that match what is in the movie, so I am worried when I finish it up people are going to think I copied HTTYD2 even though I had plotted this out in 2011. Hopefully that will go okay.
As for HTTYD2 I am working on an idea based on some sci fi novels and fantasy novels I've read that deal with the concept of what might happen to peoples' (or dragons') minds when they are over-come by external forces. If you've seen the movie Sucker Punch that might give a hint. That movie was so disappointing in the end, but it did have an interesting idea. And somehow I have to work in early mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas (Mt. Everest and K2)- both not far from where Toothless was born.
And glad to hear you are still going on with your story! Yay! And you now also have art to go with it!

Meh, copying..? I don't think so. I say DreamWorks copied from me, cuz Jimmie had the Heart-Burner flaming sword, and all outta sudden Hiccup got one aswell -3-
Sucker Punch..? Naah..I don't recall seeing it..
Yeah one can say that, much of it have been put on paper now, so I have some art to go around with it. .w.

FjordMustang In reply to 8114 [2014-07-09 02:10:14 +0000 UTC]
Good point. And HTTYD2 had the dragons bowingand roaring to Toothless, Hiccup's physical bond with Toothless helping Toothless block out the power of a controlling dragon, and Hiccup and Toothless being the same age. In the end, it's kind of flattering when your guesses match up with what is in the movies. The moviemakers don't read our fanfiction for fear of copying our ideas, so it's fun when we get something right in the way they were thinking. I know Dean DeBlois was inspired a lot by Star Wars IV, V, VI movies, and Hiccup's sword imitates the concept of a light saber, but one powered by dragon fluids. It's kind of flattery that they are thinking the same way we are.
Sucker Punch... yeh, a total failure of a movie. The concept was brilliant, but there was too much focus on the CGI and special effects so the much more clever story-line got lost. And the story-line was what would have made it so cool. I won't go into great detail to spoil the movie, but the fantasy worlds the heroines encountered were mirroring actual struggles they were facing in the real world of the mental institution where all of them had been placed to get them out of the way. This took place in the 1950s in rural America, when unethical mental institutions agreed to lock up people and lobotomize them and pretend they were crazy so their relatives could inherit their belongings. This did really happen, especially to young women. That's what makes the movie so sad. It took a really great idea and turned it into a bad action movie.
I'll look forward to reading to your future stories and art.

I loved the dragons in the movie, they all looked neat and fit into the Httyd Universe.
Though, the mind control the first movie had in small sections really got tripped in the sequel...Still hate those parts where it did some major impact, though o3o
Aww .w.
It won't be much, it will be a major improvement in spelling and thoughts cuz well...Spending 2 years now with a community and talking English and RPing mostly 24/7...That'll give something to write about later.
Ah, SoaF will pretty much continue chapter wise, the last one ended when they proper interduced themselves, next, well, it be the Berk village, ah boy.

Yup, I'm fine! I've been busy, like you! My company now is working with 13 US/Canadian gateways and 7 time zones, so we've been really busy. I wind up coming home and sleeping rather than being creative. We are hiring more staff, so that hopefully will free up time for us. I did think of you and your wife a lot over the holidays while re-reading the YA novel The Scorpio Races This takes place on a fantasy location in the Irish islands or, more likely, the North Atlantic Scottish islands. It involves the mythology of Kelpies, the mythical sea horses that are deadly to humans. They are the perfect horse if you can capture one, but they always want to rebel and take you to the sea, where they revert to a more raptor form and kill you. It sounds morbid, but it's a very uplifting story about celebrating life. The author is American, but she really created a believable view of life on a modern day North Atlantic island. All the traditions, the music, the food-- it made me wonder if you and your lady would see some authenticity in her story.
Otherwise, I hope 2014 brings a chance to write and create art for me and to write and photograph for you. Plus, HTTYD2 comes out! I love that the Valka character (Hiccup's mom?) was inspired by Dian Fossey, the physical therapist and biology hobbyist who devoted her life to studying mountain gorillas but who also came to reject humanity and even carry out terrorist attacks on humans who were hurting gorillas. Very interesting for Hiccup and Toothless, I think, to meet a human who has given her life to dragons in the extreme. It probably makes Hiccup and Toothless face a choice, for sure.
Anyway, hope you are well. It'd be lovely to hear about things with you and your story! I sure hope I can visit your neck of the woods, soon, too!

Gah, 7 time zones?? That's absolutely manic. Very happy to hear your company is getting more staff; you so deserve this success. Got a new colleague here who, as chance would have it, just finished a good long study spell in Iceland. She resided with a local family, even babysitting the kids; apparently, watching subtitled HTTYD was better viewing than anything else available!
You always point me towards such interesting books, and you've certainly piqued my interest with 'The Scorpio Races'. Kelpie? Well, Scottish or Irish, they both work. It seems that this concept has the potential for some great storytelling, a welcome break from wall-to-wall werewolves...but then I'm very into all sorts of 'transformation' stories. (How would you ever guess?) But also non-human intelligences in the round...and I recently tried a few original stories in that vein.
More art and photography from Fjord...well, what's not to love? And HTTYD2; I can't wait to see how they develop Hiccup and Valka in the film, along with the theme of dragon-human communication. Is Toothless just mimicking in that opening scene, or is it the start of real conversation? And Valka's control: some kind of mental linkage? June can't come soon enough.
Ooh, get thee to Scotland! You know you want to!
