oh you shouldn't have said that.... anyway, I like sprite art very much and I've done my share of it using char maker 1999 to be honest I have no idea how it found it.

I've been working toward more orignal art because in the DS homebrew community I'm in there is someone working on something with more original graphics.

Also I read a bunch of reviews of the game Black Sigil.
Theses are good websites for pixel art.

Speaking of engineering, I just figured out a great way to practice basics. The idea is to go on a cad tutorial website, and use gimp or w/e to sketch their practice shapes, assign a light, color, and possibly texture, and draw said shape. Okm so the texture is kinda advanced but it sounds like a great exercise that is rooted in the fundamentals

Practicing basic shapes is a great idea. I've done a few spheres. It gets a little boring though. I use photos more often.
You could use Google Sketchup to make something simple too and then copy it. I have a vague plan using the nwn2 toolset to make natural landscapes then copy them. At some point anyway. Probably after I've gotten better at doing real landscapes.

thanx man, I've always though of art as a kind of engineering. You start off with some very basic manufacturing and you have to make breakthroughs in technique to get to new places. Sometimes there are these key technologies or tough specifics that take a long time to develop, especially in the void of outside help

btw I use a very very old program called charamaker 1995 to do most of my sprite sets... lol I am 15 years behind and counting.

Yeah, you are right. Its the way most things are in life. Outside help seems like a good idea.

You should join some groups to get more exposure and be active in the groups (ie give comments). You give comments, you get comments.
