Why not try chaotica for your renders, that way you don't have to guess on density.

I used Chaotica to render my latest fractal, and it turned out quite nice. Thank you so much for suggesting it. I think I'll be using it from here on out.

I actually don't use chaotica, but it sounded like it might help.

I got around the problem by adding more RAM to my computer, but I don't know the price point between chaotica and more RAM.

I use it for small images. However, since I intend to print all my fractal flames at poster sizes, the dimension limitations of the free version of chaotica doesn't cut the mustard. One day, when money isn't so tight, I'll consider purchasing the upgraded version, but until then, I need to rely on other more mundane rendering techniques.
