Ah, to answer that question, you must look at the parameters you set yourself. Within the context of a fandom, dA is most likely a place to share fanart and fanfiction. The people most likely to churn out the largest amount of both are rabid fangirls. Therefore most of the fanart you see is done by rabid fangirls (it's a t(w)eenage girl thing, to be a rabid fangirl. We grow out of it 
If you remove from your consideration the art that is of a standard one would expect to find drawn on lined paper and photographed with a pink camera, you will find that TF fans who are not, in fact, rabid fangirls, divide themselves much more neatly between the sexes.
My short answer to that question would have to be that, in the main, boys are more likely to go buy the toys, and girls are more likely to doodle themselves in the arms of their favorite Transformer, if you catch my general drift. That's why you'll run into more TF fangirls than fanboys on deviantART: or more fangirls than fanboys no matter what fandom you're talking about.
