Huh. I see.
By the way, many Elder Scrolls fans consider Morrowind to be the best due to you being able to make friends with essentially everyone, people acknowledged you being a hero, among other things. The one thing that really caught my eye, however, was that the puzzles in dungeons require more brainpower. I saw a whole video on the series. It's 32 minutes long, so don't watch it unless you have time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JweTAh… ; I also saw that someone's making a mod that gives Morrowind the same graphics (or better, I can't remember) than Skyrim. Which, even for someone like me, who doesn't care much for graphics, (hell, I like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask) that's something that sounds appealing.

I've played Morrowind, but I had to stop.
1. Many first person games give me simulation sickness. I got some of that with Oblivion, but I could get over it. It was much worse with Morrowind. Hard to enjoy a game when it makes you physically ill.
2. I really didn't get into the game. I didn't like the combat mechanics, the dialogue menus, the same-y-ness ("oh, look, another wooden door into the umpteenth randomly named cave"), or just how hard it was to find something to do.
3. People talk about it being an open world, and it is, but I never felt rewarded for my explorations. "I wonder what's up on that ridge? ... Nothing! Ab-so-lutely nothing!" It never sucked me in.
Also, yeah, you're thinking of Skywind I assume. It's the successor to Morroblivion, which itself is still in production. Even Morroblivion has been in production for years, so I'm not holding my breath.

It's really fun, but trying to get the good ending by killing as few people as possible was somewhat tedious because I suck at stealth, because of that, I never actually beat it, and my PS3 has decided to stop reading disks. XD But it IS a very fun game.

GearRyu In reply to Lolice-Scarlet [2014-08-28 17:04:39 +0000 UTC]
I've heard mixed reviews. However, your difficulty with the stealth reminds me of this video review of the game, which you might find amusing: www.escapistmagazine.com/video…

Well, the game's good enough to have won over 50 game of the year awards, so I'm fairly certain it's a good game. And I've played it, too. There's tons of features in it that should've been in Skyrim, like, oh I dunno, CLIMBING. Bethesda, y u no let us climb? And when you land after a high enough fall, he lands like one o' them ninjas.

I find that quality and success don't overlap as often as I once believed. I use success as an initial measuring stick for whether I look into a game in the first place. However, then I prefer to look at critical reviews to make a final decision about whether to invest my resources in a game.
*adjusts pink-framed glasses, all sage-like* XD

Lolice-Scarlet In reply to GearRyu [2014-08-28 17:20:16 +0000 UTC]
Well critics don't necessarily determine a game. I mean, just look at Okami. That game was a commercial failure, and it is quite possibly one of the best games ever made. Critics of games are quite often biased. If they don't like a certain game type, then they give it a poor review. I've played the game, and I very strongly recommend Dishonored.

GearRyu In reply to Lolice-Scarlet [2014-08-28 17:29:38 +0000 UTC]
Okami is a good example of this, actually. The game is a commercial flop, but a critical success.
That's why I played Okami.
I'll play a game which is a critical success regardless of whether it was a commercial success.
I'm just saying that I likely won't play a game that's a commercial success, but a critical flop.
My impression of Dishonored was that it's more the latter ("commercial success, critical flop"). One of my friends played it; found it middling quality. One of my favorite critical reviewers played it; found it middling quality. So I gave it a pass. It could be a game that I'd enjoy, regardless, and I don't mean to demean the fun you find in playing it. If nothing else, there's other games that are high on my priority list right now, like Dark Souls.

Critics have bashed many good games. The problem I have isn't that you're demeaning a game I like. It's that you're demeaning a game you've never played. Why don't you ask your friend if yo can borrow it for a while. That way, you won't need to pay for it to see whether you like it or not. You shouldn't always take other people's word for it. I'm sorry if I'm upsetting you, but it really bothers me when people don't try things for themselves.
Let me ask you a question, do you like Assassin's Creed and The Elder Scrolls?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GearRyu In reply to Lolice-Scarlet [2014-08-28 18:03:35 +0000 UTC]
I haven't played Assassin's Creed. Although I appreciate the concept behind the Elder Scrolls series:
1. I don't find Arena, Daggerfall, or Morrowind engaging (the latter two, incidentally, make me dizzy)
2. Oblivion was fun; not like "top 10 games" fun, but fun
3. I haven't played Skyrim
I really shouldn't bash a game I haven't played, yes. I will just say I don't like most of what I've heard. The setting and concept sound interesting; the execution sounds mediocre or poor.
I already have a list of games that I'm personally excited about playing: many of which I own or have also garnered critical acclaim. Although I recognize that critics can be wrong, I need to start somewhere in deciding which games I am going to prioritize: I feel like the opinion of a trusted critic, and a close friend who usually likes games in the Stealth genre, are a good basis for making Dishonored a low priority. Even if I put aside my other hobbies, it would be at least a year before I get around to playing Dishonored.
