Whoa, I've never heard of those dolls before...where'd you get them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Giodrakes In reply to wolfsong97 [2011-02-26 07:32:27 +0000 UTC]

I got them from Iplehouse My favourite BJD company They are actually having a "moving sale" right now, so a lot of stuff is sold out, BUT almost everything left is 10% off I think, including the dolls
I am waiting for my first boy doll right now (YID Soo Ri) and a bunch of clothes and wigs and accessories and things for him
Have fun looking and hope you find your Dream doll

Thanks! Those are pretty dolls I must admit! Where could I find that store? Is it online or what?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Giodrakes In reply to wolfsong97 [2011-02-26 16:11:42 +0000 UTC]

But of course They are Asian ball-jointed dolls. Iplehouse is in Korea
Their URL is [link]
Claire is a YID Iris, which is 60 cm. Kaitlyn is an EID Carina, and she's 65 cm, and I am expecting a YID Soo Ri, and they are 63cm. I am planning on getting an EID Luo later on But EID Arvid is new (limited edition) and he's pretty sweet, too. He's like a younger, more pointy-nosed version of Luo
My dolls are all "normal skin", but the basics come in Rose white, too, and if you order thorough the Custom Doll System, you can get anyone you want in Real skin (a bit tanned), Light Brown (darker than tanned) or what they call "Evony", which is basically ebony I think they just misspelled it

I am no expert, but if you have any questions, I can try to answer them. In the meantime, before you start asking questions, I suggest you read the pages starting here... [link]
It has everything from what they are, how big they are, what they are for, how much they are, why they are expensive, how they work, where they are from, and everything about customizing them, including painting them, stringing them, sanding, tattoos and piercings, and even gender reassignment
I am glad that when I first started I found that page, and I give it to anyone that has questions, cause it taught me so much that I still refer to it.
Anyway. Have fun looking and reading
I myself can only wish that I had found out about them LONG before I did. It's been complete joy and a total blessing in so many ways It brought back my creativity, which I thought was completely lost, but in so many more ways than before

LOL hi tanks for the welcome
Funniest thing is, I used to draw and sketch and stuff, and just a few days ago I was telling boyfriend I should start doing some of that again sometime, and then I land here! I've seen some work and people draw beautifully on here! Reminds me of the good old days. I wish I hadn't lost my college portfolio so I could give proof to myself of my "artsy-ness", cause sometimes, honestly, I think I lost it... then I get into projects, like I am now, and I realize I need more of an outlet. Thanks for inadvertently bringing me here

You're most welcome! And yeah I know what you mean, I have drawn soooo little for a good couple years now and then whine to myself that I suck at drawing. Gee I wonder why! Ah well, practice will be gotten around to eventually, and in the end I think... if I'm not gonna, I just gotta go "eh, I do other stuff, it's cool." Plus if I reeeally want to later, I can obsess as needed.

I'm usually perpetually behind here, there definitely are way too many great artists here because I'm always watching too many of them.

Ha!!! you see how it is, I hadn't been on in a while Been trying to concentrate on the Etsy and making some stuff, and spending way too much time in the forums
Still not drawing over here... Starting to realize I have to get me a new notebook to keep track of all the stuff I have to do, so I can take a full mental break, and know where I left off when I come back. I am leaving way too much to memory and then wonder why I can't relax when I try to take a break

Ah yes, know the feeling, though that applies to me more with stories. Lately I get smacked with new story ideas trying to derail the in-progress projects. I have learned to do a fast plot/character synopsis on paper or in notepad (for most of them anyways), and then drop it again for the stuff in the "need to finish sooner" category.

Giodrakes In reply to tirsden [2011-02-26 07:42:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh gosh. Don't get me started on stories. I have NO CLUE what I'm doing. I can't write!!!! But I would love to come up with some story for Claire and.... Soo Ri? We haven't quite decided on a name for him yet But I know she's a Victorian girl. Soo Ri is sort of Victorian, but more leaning to steampunk if I can pull it off. I know nothing of history, and I can't write lol
On top of that I am trying to figure out how they would meet now. How did they end up in this time, living here with me. Cause you now they're both "adopted" lol
I don't even know where I'm going with this. All I know is that I'm looking somewhere between 1876 and 1890 clothing-wise, and of course, with a twist for him

I like what you say about the fast plot/character synopsis... I am thinking, the only way I can write is in sort of a journal style... maybe I should do that, from her point of view, and from his.
Maybe they're just trapped in Victorian times in their taste, and I spoil them I don't know.

In my utterly biased opinion, any form of writing works and the more you write, the better you get at it. (Geee like drawing LOL *totally changes the subject* TEA! I like tea. ) A journal-style story narrated in-character would be awesome, you could trade entries back and forth between the two characters even, and the reader could see what the two think of each other while the characters don't actually know.

I learn a TON of stuff on so many of the stories I write, they may have a semblance of looking educated when in fact they are quite often researched on the spot. I tell you, Wikipedia is your friend, "citation needed" or not. Google in general too. In the last few weeks I've looked up the history of chocolate (twice), history of guns, proper rose bush care in the winter, a few things on Victorian-style dress, "what the freak is laudanum anyways," and I forget what else. Some of it I retain only long enough to get the text written, and some of it actually seems to stick longer. I think I've found a new way of learning. Waaay more fun than "here, read this textbook chapter and memorize all these dates and spew it back out on a test that you'll forget by the end of the day." Funwayplz.

Oh you're telling me!!! I wish that I had known back in school, because I would have created my own stories and would have actually learned history. But I got history teachers that didn't quite care about making the story interesting, and it was like you said, read this, memorize the dates, I don't care what happened, just tell me the name of the battle and the year. That's not going to make it stick for me unfortunately :/

Love the idea of writing from both of their perspectives without them knowing. Like Claire and the incoming Soo Ri have no clue about eachother. She lives here, and is away on a trip right now. I "adopted" him while she's away, and now it's a race to see who gets here first, and then I will see who surprises whom hehe

I have the hardest time of finding where to start though... but there's always "It was the best of times... it was the worst of times... " lol

Heh sometimes I just start with whatever scene is in my head, just to get *something* written down. I even wrote a story with the middle first, ending second, and beginning last. At first I thought I only had a middle part, then realized I could end it, and then it's like "okay this needs a proper beginning." I've also just started by used very plain language do describe a character in a setting and what they are doing or thinking, to get the juices flowing.

For a journal though, hmm... "Dear diary, I am soooooo bored." Hmm, I know I've written a few diary pages myself like that. Sometimes I just have to wait on a story to really kick in, as forcing it just leads to crap and I get frustrated. And then sometimes that magical moment arrives and I can't type fast enough. And am usually hoping the inspiration and motivation lasts for the entire project.
