Fine artist working mainly in graphite portraiture, occasionally surreal.Born: 1977, Liverpool, England
The journey began as a hobby from a very early age, a fun pass time rather than something which was taken seriously. At the age of twelve my ability to draw people was quickly discovered but regrettably this was never taken any further in regards to art education in later life. Even today my artwork remains a hobby; juggled between working full time & being a father of three. In 2010 I decided to continue learning my craft & improving my skills. Going from sketches to more precise detailed drawings in 2012 my latest work has been labelled as Photo-realism by fans.
As a full-fledged art movement, Photo-realism evolved from Pop Art and as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements in the late 1960′s and early 1970′s in the United States. Photo-realists use a photograph or several photographs to gather the information to create their drawings/paintings and it can be argued that the use of a camera and photographs is an acceptance of Modernism. However, the admittance to the use of photographs in Photo-realism was met with intense criticism when the movement began to gain momentum in the late 1960′s, despite the fact that visual devices had been used since the fifteenth century to aid artists with their work.

Hey, welcome aboard! Your output is terrific; in my opinion you have nailed Photo-realism. You may want to experiment with Wolff's Carbon pencils - they offer blackness that graphite pencils don't, and are made in the UK, so should be easily available. You also might want to try Claybord by Ampersand (www.ampersandart.com/claybord.html) which is a porcelain surface wedded to masonite. It is pricey, but can take a good amount of abuse with abrasives.
In any case, don't stop producing and having fun with it. Thanks for sharing your stuff.
