dude, I have finished 90% of all snes games ever made (DAMN those infernal text-based jap games that were not translated, if not for them it would be higher) I know the best rpg on the system is very subjective. I agree earthbound is up there, however the overwhelming majority of the snes community would agree that others are better.

earthbound, while quite cool (esp trippy colours in fights). is far from the best snes game man.
best multiplayer snes game hands down is chibi maruko chan
best platformer on the snes - super metroid
best is quite subjective depending on your tastes, most would argue for one of the following, tales of phantasia, chrono trigger, lufia 2, breath of fire 2
and so on

Earthbound isn't the best SNES RPG, but I maintain it is up there. It had some features that I wish more RPGs had, such as the outclass feature, where by if you massively outclass your enemy, you simply win the encounter without fighting. That would have saved a goodly amount of time in the latter FF games.
Personally, I think the best traditional console RPG ever is "Final Fantasy III" for the SNES, re-released here on the Playstation under the proper title "Final Fantasy VI."
If you want a full argument on this, I'll post one, since, to be honest, I don't have much to do otherwise.

If anybody still pays attention to me, sorry about the missing Toaster. It was a busy week end, and things got weird. So, I ran with a joke my friend came up with, and make a movie thing instead, since it took far less thought. I promise, Mervin will be updated by Wednsday.
