Your works remind me of a mix of lucien Freud, egon schiele and a touch of Francis bacon's shapes.
I don't know if i expressed it well.
Just wanted to let you know

I also saw your entry on which one shouldn't draw celebrities and switch to imaginary creations of one's mind.I get your logic but do you feel like taking the topic some further?
Because I'm the case.I'm not self-projecting but I think we two could exchange views.
Not objecting to what you said.just rare to exchange views with people of all certain mind.

Drawing from photos is a great learning tool and if you take your own photos, you can keep doing it as a professional.Β Β
But the sooner you can start drawing from your own photos, or drawing from real life, or your imagination, the better...for several reasons.Β  Β

Like you, I made sketches of famous people when I was young.Β  But as I grew older, those drawings became meaningless to me.Β  They were learning exercises and nothing more.Β  I actually threw them in the trash not too long ago.Β

But the drawings I did of family and friends, during that same time period, I kept.Β  Because those sketches DO mean something to me.Β Β

I know sketches of family/friends/pets aren't going to get as many clicks as sketches of johnny depp wearing a captain jack costume, but they will mean more to you later, and the sooner you can start taking your own photos/reference images, the sooner you will develop your 'voice/style' as an artist.Β

Grab a camera, make some costumes, set up a light...and pretend you're making a movie, but instead of filming, just take a set of photos....then pick the best photo and draw it!Β  This gets your family/friends/pets involved and it makes your work 100% original.Β  Β

Somewhere inside you, there is a unique style and voice shaped by the life experiences that only you have had.Β  Find that voice and develop it!Β

Actually the things I'm drawing are not about the likes or clicks.most of these drawings are related to personal views or hints or things I do for my selves.
I do lots of personal drawings all the time but I never post. It is my optical diary as I say.personal experiences that I don't want to give to the light of deviantART.
But they mean something to me since they teach me things and are a portfolio for an internship to art schools...

I just started thinking; your work reminds me of my work of about 6 years ago or so.. When I had more fantasy and my drawings and paintings were something in which I could totally loose myself. Just realised that I've missed that the past years; I've gotten the tendency to make 'nice' things and it bites me in the ass..
Thanks for making me realise this

GuyWithPaintBrush In reply to PurplePanties [2014-07-06 20:56:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Purple! Β I've only started to bump up the surreal/fantasy in the last couple years. Β It's made painting much more personal and, more importantly, enjoyable!

They just dry slower
It's great for someone like me because it forces me to stop and step back for a day, waiting for the color to dry a little...and in that time, I usually see a couple of things I would have missed, had I rushed to completion. Β

LadyeBird In reply to GuyWithPaintBrush [2014-07-06 22:10:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the heads up. I did hate Acrylic because of how fast it would dry, so maybe this is a good thing.
