On arpeggio of blue steel does it say anything about the Fog Fleet around America?

Manga is yet to name any vessels - however back in chapter 2 it is mentioned that there are some stationed near Hawaii.
In anime, American part of the Pacific fleets was destroyed by Kongou.

Cool thanks. Also Doesn't it say the Russian fleet is almost gone completely?

The human Russian fleet - they were kinda the first one to attack "Fog" - but actually I don't think the fleet is gone. More like Japanese fleet, there ought to be some remaining vessels stationed in the underground protected docks. The North fleet and the Black sea fleet are the two I suspect have the most warships remaining after the Great Battle. Partially because the bases of those fleets are the best protected naturally (freezing sea and Crimea caves turned into bunkers that can survive nuke bombings respectively).
And though it would be nice to see some Soviet warship replicas (under the "Fog" flag), none were even mentioned so far.

Despite how busy I am, I've been making time to catch new AHNA episodes as they air. I will say they've changed quite a few things and omitted others: no U-2501, no Yamato, no Hakugei III, no mention of Kotono Amaha. And recently, Professor Osakabe's background has been heavily altered too. It's like the anime is a condensed version of the story so far. But since I read the manga too, I don't mind - I just observed that the anime simplifies things. Hopefully more merchandise than a few plastic models will come out next year. Hyuuga should probably be appearing in the next episode too.

Those Chinese cosplay shops are FAST. "Arpeggio of Blue Steel" just came out and costumes for Gunzou, Takao, I-401, I-400, and Kirishima are already available. 0_0
Also, I just bought miniatures of two of the ships appearing in the story including the Repulse (possibly my favorite real-life battlecruiser) and Takao (she was already my favorite heavy cruiser before the manga with the Tone class coming after her because I thought the cruiser/carrier idea was pretty neat).
I am not really buying a lot right now because I have a number of important investments coming up on my schedule at some point (new cosplay stuff), but I love those two ships, and they're both AHNA characters now. They can join the other miniature I already have, the legendary WW1 German light cruiser S.M.S. Emden.

wish some would be sold there... I'd like to have a Fog-ified model too... Not sure, which one I'd prefer, though.
Anyway, this time I think I'm going to beat /ak/ to translation. I've already finished transcribing into Chinese text yesterday, and right now I'm on page 15 of translation.
Should be done by my late afternoon today. so...

Sounds like fun. I'm glad you're working so hard. So far the episodes have been a lot of fun to watch, although I am not the biggest fan of that all-CGI animation. (I prefer a blend of CGI ships/backgrounds and drawn/cel-shaded characters.)
As for Fog-ified models, model kits are going to be released by the end of this year, but these are going to be "traditional" models - you have to glue them together, prime them and paint them, and they'll probably feature waterslide decals. I'm not good enough to build those. I hope that "figure" or "gashapon"-like models - the little plug-and-fit desk models - will be released sometime next year, though.

It looks like all of the Myoko-class ships (the Takao's were improved Myoko's) and at least one of the remaining Takao's (the Atago) are stationed with Hiei. That's one powerful squadron with all those heavy cruisers, considering cruisers were designed to pretty much operate alone.

It looks like Hiei's entire fleet has Mental Models, meaning they have to at least be Heavy Cruisers. The Japanese are running out of Battleships. I think the only ones we haven't seen are Mutsu, Fuso and Yamashiro and there were more mental models than that. However, there are *plenty* of carriers and heavy cruisers left. They haven't done any of the Japanese cruisers besides Takao and Maya.
Also, I suspect our maid Mental Model from last time is British. We finally got a good side profile of her in this chapter. I could tell right from looking at her lines that she is not Japanese and likely isn't German. Judging from the arrangement of her stacks and her gun turrets I suspect she may be one of the two British sister battlecruisers, Repulse and Renown, also known as "HMS Refit" and "HMS Repair" because of how finicky they were. I wouldn't be surprised if they chose those because at least one of the two was destroyed by the Japanese.
HMS Repulse:

HMS Renown:

The hull outline of the maid Mental Model is more of a match for the Repulse so I suspect that's who she might be. This would also lead me to suspect she's from Scapa Fleet.

Also, our maid has 2 forward turrets and 1 rear turret with 2 guns per turret. That is not a typical British configuration, but Repulse and Renown used it. That configuration is more American than anything else, and the Americans generally preferred 3 guns per turret.

Mhm... re-read the chapter. Somehow, Iona sitting in the captain's seat there made me think about 'Tessa from FMP.
Also, I got an impression that Hiei is trying to force others to wear those uniforms. The Mental Model with an eye-patch is definitely not happy about that. Dunno about her 'normal' looks, as those haven't been shown to us, but the third new Mental Model (pg 11) is cute. Maybe those one too isn't as awkward...
The one that Yamato ... creates (?) at the end of the chapter (pg 27) is cute too.
And about the Mental Model from the previous chapter: she might also be from America's Pacific fleet: after all, it will be them clashing against I-401 and Hakugei after they cross Pacific --- and Ark Performance is trying to show us that this fleet isn't united either.... ah well, what the point in talking about it when everything we understand are only pictures?
Also, maybe once I'm done with my current task at work, I will translate at least these few pages so that we will finally know who these Mental Models are.

galaxy1701d In reply to HO4HOj-OXOTHUK [2013-09-18 16:10:48 +0000 UTC]
Here's the problem: that is likely not a Pacific Fleet ship. Remember, I'm a Navy nut. I can recognize some of these ships just from their silhouettes. The maid girl's silhouette is very close to the HMS Repulse especially in how low the superstructure is at the aft turret, the configuration of the twin masts and the fact that she has 2 separate stacks, one above the other. Furthermore, her turret configuration is extremely unusual: a main battery of three turrets, 2 in the bow, 1 in the stern, with 2 guns per turret.
American battleships did use 2 guns per turret in WW1, but Americans generally liked 4 turrets back then. Also, the entire way battleship superstructures were built in WW1 precludes this girl being a WW1 American dreadnought because she just doesn't look like one, although she is clearly more of a WW1 dreadnought than a WW2 battleship or battle cruiser. As of WW2, the Americans had almost totally converted to Triple Turrrets. For example, the doomed U.S.S. Arizona had 4 turrets with 3 guns per turret. In fact, practically all the Pacific Fleet Battleships that were destroyed and/or refloated on or after December 7th, 1941 had 4 triple-turrets while the ships built after Pearl Harbor like the South Dakota class, the North Carolina Class, and the Iowa class had sleeker, modern hulls and three triple-turrets.
All postwar German ships were also more modern-looking and did not have Dreadnought-style lines. The only older one remaining was the old S.M.S. Schleswig-Holstein, which fired the first shots of the war. That ship was so old she wasn't even a Dreadnought and as a Predreadnought she only had two double turrets. Three double turrets, therefore, is an extremely strange configuration. Even the Hood didn't have that. Certainly none of the Japanese ships had that. Ise, Hyuuga, Fuso and Yamashiro all had 6 turrets in their original configurations. Nagato and Mutsu had more modern hulls and 4 double turrets while Yamato and Musashi had three triple-turrets. The only ships I'm aware of with this kind of configuration (the manga seems to be totally ignoring the French and Italian fleets right now) are some of the British battle cruisers, especially since the British were fooling around with alternate configurations (Nelson, Rodney) and 4-gun turrets (Prince of Wales, King George V) for their big battleships.
There were only three known remaining British battle cruisers of WW2 were Repulse, Renown and Hood and that girl is definitely not Hood. Hood had a more modern hull form and 4 double-turrets. Hence why I think she's either Repulse or Renown and she looks much more like the Repulse. In this case, all we have might be pictures, but if you're enough of a battleship nerd like me, and you get the right picture, it might help give one or more clues:

(That last one shows the Repulse next to a typical WW2 English battleship, HMS Prince of Wales. Note the huge difference in configuration with Prince of Wales' larger superstructure, smaller post-WW1 style masts and that bizarre 4-gun turret, part of how the English were trying to get around treaty limitations.)
The girl Yamato is talking to at the very end is cute, that's true, but I can't help but wonder who she is as well - we got introduced to so many this chapter. As for what happened right before the end of the chapter, we see one of the 400-series submarines (that's an Iona type Mental Model, I'm suspecting possibly I-401 herself), Shouzou Chihaya on the Musashi's deck, bloodied - and wearing his old military uniform - with Musashi walking her burning deck while the submarine forms (or Yamato creates) a Mental Model. I really suspect the prior scene with Musashi burning is a flashback, because Shouzou Chihaya doesn't wear that uniform in present time. It still raises more questions than it answers, but it seems clear Shouzou has had a connection to the Musashi for quite some time, and that something happened to him, or that Gunzou is right to suspect his father isn't totally himself.
I definitely agree with you that the Fleet of Fog isn't one solid organization. All of the battleships definitely seem to have some authority to act under their own will, as wel as their own subordinates. Also, yes, Hiei is probably forcing the "Japanese school uniform" act on her fleet, perhaps to try to unify the fleet. They definitely don't seem to like it and they certainly seem to be getting on Hiei's nerves. That's cute, but I can't help but wonder how many of them are eventually going to get destroyed since there seems to be a trend of Mental Models losing their ship-bodies in this story, even though it always makes me sad to see that. Iona in her own Captain's Seat is actually pretty ironic, since she doesn't need a crew to drive her and is letting them to control and maintain her, heh.

This is, I think, a radio show - done by the Seiyu of the characters? I think it's a promotional thing. The Japanese, unlike the Americans, still know how to use radio effectively to support other media.

Looks like we might be getting models of the girls' ship-bodies after all. I don't have time to build actual model kits so I'm hoping for trading figure-like models more than anything else, but I'm just glad that they are putting out merchandise.

I just thought I'd let you know I've slowly started buying books on some of the ships that are featured in "Arpeggio of Blue Steel." I picked up a book on the Japanese battleships today. Next time I get enough money (these books are small but they cost almost $20 each because they're specialty items, usually read by history geeks or model builders) I'll buy one of the heavy cruisers.

I will say this about that last chapter, it's definitely very slow-paced and quiet. I can't help but feel like they're starting to build to something big again, but I don't know if that big thing will happen next chapter or the one after.
Those restraints on Takao are pretty pesky, too, and they make me wonder just what Yamato/Kotono wants to do with her and what she wants from Gunzou, anyway. Takao does seem to genuinely like Gunzou, though, and I do applaud her loyalty, but it's going to be a long shot seeing if she can escape or not.
But for now, I just wonder who is going to play her in the anime. I really hope she gets a good voice. Yamato/Kotono will be an interesting role too, because I'm sure they will share a voice actress, but the two MM's have such different personalities. I've been wishing for this manga to get an anime since it came out and am looking forward to it.

No serious commissions/requests at the moment: I have a scientific conference to get ready to in two weeks, and I'm working on a major project for my mastery right now, so my free time is very limited.
However, I may do some linearts as those usually don't take much time to complete.

I thought it might help "motivate" you a little bit while working on the Nagato line art to give you some links to pictures of the real life HIJMS Nagato. She was considered one of the most beautiful battleships in the world in her time, and one of the most advanced - first one to ever mount sixteen inch main guns, and her new bow design made her extremely fast. The British and Americans viewed her and her sister Mutsu as a real threat. The South Dakotas, North Carolinas and Iowas were partially built to try to surpass her.
