HAHAHHBAHHHBXHJHE!!! Just looked at the #4.. That is so awesome, thankyou my friend :^D When is your birthday again? Snowy owls are my favorite -- this you probably know, seeing as you illustrated one. And the bloody pig's head looks so delicious that I practically flooded my computer in drool and so now I need a Noah to come with his Ark and save all the letters on my key pad. And just thanks. SO AMAZING IM GONNA JUST DIE. I feel as if the beings with holes in their hind legs are familiar, but why? Are they doberman pincers?

Hi! I've noticed you're Russian, so may I ask you to correct a couple of names for me?
Two of my animal sculptures are Russian species, or are supposed to be of Russian origin, and I'd like to know if the names I found for them are the right form of the word, and if the Latin alphabet translations are correct (regular alphabet):
Ρ
ΡΡΡΠΊΠ° = Hrjushka = Pig (general, or used mostly about the sow/female?)
Π±ΠΎΠ»ΡΡΠΎΠΉ = Bol'shoj = Large
Π΄Π΅ΡΠ·ΠΊΠΈΠΉ = Derzkij = Brash
I don't know the language, so I have to use translation- and search engines....!
Lovely work, by the way!

oohhhh, I'm really sorry to say but I'm actually not Russian : ( I only wish that I was. One day though, I might move to Russia and learn the language. Those are beautiful names however! Have you created these sculptures yet? From what I've seen of your other art peices, I'm sure they're magnifico... This person is Russian though - they might be able to help you! : [link]
* & thankyou for the compliment : D

Han-Wik In reply to HazelRah-Part5 [2012-04-17 08:17:45 +0000 UTC]
Ah- I see. I always take the profile information seriously, but even if you were in Russia, living a place doesn't mean you know the language, or you could have moved there recently. But thanks for clearing it up!
The sculptures are mustelids- a mink and a sable marten. The mink is complete, but requires a particular biotope, so I'm waiting for good weather. The sable is already up in my gallery, but is being reconstructed (I don't know when the update will be up).
A third, an American relative of the raccoon called ringtail or bassarisk will be up this Summer, I think.
In other news, I'm trying to draw in between- but sculpting is addicting.XD Unfortunately, I'm suffering from muscle injury, and have to take it easy, so the process is slow.
You're welcome, and thanks for the link!

I hope you're able to correctly translate those names & that your muscle injury DIES. Is a mink the same as an ermine? And I know that ermines have white coats in the winter, but what do they look like in the summer? Your sculptures all sound super cool!! Can't wait to see them c:

Han-Wik In reply to HazelRah-Part5 [2012-04-20 21:38:50 +0000 UTC]
I hope so, too, and I agree about the injury. Seriously, even when you know someone's always having it worse than you, you're allowed to curse and hate when your pain prevents you from doing what you love the most. In my case, it's art/sculpting/drawing. Not only does it hurt- it lasts for months. But I'm well now! My back seemed to suffer endlessly for a long time, but then I was told to lower my chair, and it appears to be gone. If nothing happens the coming week, It's a miracle. Then again, correct posing and adjustments is as important as life itself. I hope I won't have to search for a cure. For the ache in general, physical exercise twice a week helps for sure.
Yes and no: they are not the same species, but the mink belongs to the same family as the stoat/ermine, mustelidae, and the same subfamily, weasels. The weasels are the slinkiest and tiniest of the weasels, but farmed minks can reach the size of a small house cat. I'm talking about the American mink here- it's not to be confused with the European mink. ''Mink'' is used about brown, semi-aquatic weasels. There's a lot of tricky confusion within this family- the largest carnivore family.
As for pelage- Southern weasels, including the stoat/ermine stay BROWN all year round, with a cream underside. Here's the summer coat: [link]
Two other weasels are known to turn white as well. Only Northern weasels will turn ''ermine'', and that name is only used about the winter coat. Sadly, it sounds like a separate species when used like that. So you see, it has to be explained very carefully. In America, the stoat/ermine is called ''short-tail'' to avoid confusion with their long-tailed weasel (different species)! I'm doing a mustelid tutorial, and colour is one of the chapters, so you'll see then. I love the Spring and Summer moults- with a mix between white and brown: [link] , [link]
Thank you for the warm words! Reminded of PATW, I've always wanted to do stop-motion animation. It's a combination of two things I'm burning for; animation and sculptures. Posable sculptures is a big step for me!

My grandmother has been suffering from something similar to what you have-- she has really bad arthritis and her way of getting rid of it (though I'm not sure if it works) is by making crippled people out of clay. Like, if she has a hand injury, she'll make a little figure with demented hands! Even if it's NOT effective in healing her, atleast it's creative! Thankyou for all that information and the links-- you're like an encyclopedia It would be the best ever to have a farmed mink as a pet~ I have two cats and I cannot possibly imagine seeing a MINK as large as either of them - thats insane! But a very neat bit of information.. Yes, I agree that animation is absolutely the bomb. Just like any other type of artistic medium, when you create sculptures and make them appear to be moving by themselves in a film, it's like they have a life of their own. I will be sure to look to your work as inspiration, like that tutorial you mentioned. Though I've never created a mustelidae before, I like to make miniature animals of all sorts. red foxes happen to be one of my favorite : )

Han-Wik In reply to HazelRah-Part5 [2012-04-21 05:48:50 +0000 UTC]
I'm glad your grandmother is able to do something to keep the darkness away! I'm not able to work when I'm injured.
The mink will appear a little smaller than the cat because it's more slender, with shorter legs. Mt cat is around 42 cm (a rather small girl), and that's pretty close to a female ranched mink, I think.
Russia has some of the most beautiful mustelids out there, but sadly they are sought after because of their rich, protective fur (it's cold, you know, but long mustelid fur is also very pretty).

Sable (marten): [link] , [link]
Thanks- I love researching around animals- and right now I'm devoted to bringing facts about mustelids onto the field, because they are either misunderstood or hardly known (and because they are my favourites). If only I was this dedicated, not to mention organized, when it comes to my house chores.XD
