Why do I like the show? Goodness, where do I start?
Well to tell the truth, it does baffle me to this day how adult males have fallen in love with the show that was known as the ultimate taboo for all males just a few years ago, and I have contemplated it on several occasions.

Yes, it is absolutely adorable, and the art style is very pleasant to the eye, but that is not nearly enough to win me over. If it was just cutsie-putsie I was looking for, yeah, I could find plenty of pics on the internet, but MLP is so much more than that. It has brilliant story writing and character development. The characters are not just your generic cliches that you find in just about every other show on television, but actually have very complex personalities, and with each episode, you get to see them learn and grow! You end up falling in love with the characters, and feel for them when things happen to them in the show. (it is one of the very few shows that actually brought me to tears)
The stories are told in a brilliant way that make you laugh, cry, and even feel anger at times, not like most shows which are cliche after cliche, leaving you feeling next to nothing.
Yes the moral lessons that the show teaches are all lessons I already know, but they are all lessons that people seem to often forget, and need to be reminded, myself included (mainly my issues with self esteem, and standing up for what I believe in)

But for me, I think it has a lot to do with the show's innocence. it is one of the very few children's cartoons that don't resort to vulgar jokes, or dressing the females like street hookers. I have seen MANY kids shows that disturbed and disgusted me, even when I was a kid! It also is the only show that I know of that does not support vanity. Most shows try to present what is the proper image, the pretty, athletic girl, or the Brad Pitt boy, but MLP teaches that it really isn't what one looks like as much as it is the personality that matters. Like one of my favorite scenes from MLP, the episode "Flight to the Finish" Scootaloo is in a conundrum because she cannot fly, taking a huge shot to her self esteem, and Rainbow Dash comes to tell her that it just doesn't matter if she can or cannot fly, that she is awesome all the same. Where it may be saddening to think that Scoot may never fly, it was incredibly uplifting to see the show teaching that it does not matter what you are physically capable of, as long as you have a good hart, that is what matters. Most shows would show the character overcoming their disability, leading them to victory, but that teaches people that DO have disabilities, that in order to succeed, they must overcome the impossible, which is a very BAD lesson to present.

Another big reason I like the show, is the community. We are safe to speak of the show we love, and show our love for it without being belittled or looked down upon. And then, some people create spinoff worlds of their own based on the show, and interact with other people in their worlds. I know that sounds silly, but when you are looked down upon and mistreated as I have been, it is a very nice thing to be able to be a part of.
And then the creators of the show itself acknowledge and support the brony community by being a part of it, and giving shout-outs to show their appreciation, like when DJ Pon3's name was made official, or when Derpy became what she is today. Those were actually done by the brony community, and the writers decided to put it into the show.
Thanks to the community, I feel safe to show my love for the show, and for the first time EVER, I am starting to open myself up in real life, to show my true self, rather than hiding myself, fearing what others may think.

I know this explanation is not a very good one, and there are many more things that I love about the show that I just cannot explain, I've never been good at explaining things, and my knowledge of psychology, story writing, and animation are very limited. All I can say if you haven't watched the show, is give it a chance. Most people are too closed minded, and set on the stereotypical views that MLP is taboo, and adult males should be into football, nascar and explosions. If you look at the show with an open mind, you just may discover why it is so vastly loved. And if you don't like the show, that's okay too. Like everything else, it isn't for everyone, but just give it a chance before judging it. As they say, "don't judge a book by it's cover".

Oh! Thank you so much for answering me legitimately in a polite and actually fairly enlightening way. 

I was afraid that I'd come off improperly the way I had chosen my words, but in honestly it was curiosity not really trying to bother you C: 

I still don't believe this show is for me (even if I had time for it), but I do feel better knowing that at least some older (used loosely) people have pretty honest reasons for liking it.
