Also, your characters are really cute. Your style is very nostalgic to me for some reason. It reminds me of something I might have watched on tv as a kid (90s).

Yes. But the old school stuff that came on t.v. and you didn't really know it was anime until later on - when it actually had a name and pop culture following. Or at least, the shows that were funded by American companies and developed in Japan.

No! It's still unique. I've never seen anyone draw dragons like you do. It's just that it REMINDS me of something I would watch as a kid. It's simple and fun, qualities which are highly valued when you're doing animation by hand which is what they did in the 80s'-90's. They look easy to animate. Please don't take it as a detriment. It was meant as a compliment! Pastiche is always popular! People love being reminded of comforting things from their childhood. Also remember, that your style is still developing.

Not at all. I love comments. I was just worried that I was drawing in an old style. I taught myself how to draw. I had basic lessons in elementary school and only one semester in High School, but that was all.

Well you've got a great start! I really do like your style! As I said, it is plenty unique and would like to see more. I would also like to see how you progress, if that's alright. But you really shouldn't worry about whether your style is unique or not. Just draw how you want to draw. Don't get discouraged. You're still learning and you'll end up going through phases where your art may look like someone else's. (I used to draw anime like Rumiko Takahashi (Inu Yasha, Ranman 1/2, etc.) all through middle school. lol) But that's how you really find your own way of drawing. And you're open to comments which is also really good!
And neither do I for the most part - follow guidelines that is- but I'm in the midst of obtaining my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in University. Sometimes guidelines can be very helpful, like when you're trying to draw people and poses especially. Drawing from life - while sometimes boring and can be quite painful - also makes you learn a lot. I wish I would have known that sooner in my artistic career. How-to-draw books and high/elementary school classes are a great place to start, but if, one day, you should want to move beyond what you are doing now, or if you just want to improve your current style, then definitely draw from life or photos!
