Speaking about the cap bands.

If you're saying the title words like "MARINE NATIONALE" in France, The Kanji would be pretty difficult. In the book Seito, the PRJ navy was called "赤衛艦隊", means "Red Guard Fleet". I think their title was "日本赤衛艦隊", ”日本軍艦XX” or something.

And the names of ships, according to the book again, in 1952, the RGF was consist of 6 destroyers, the flagship was "解放" means "Liberation". And the other that names were written were "自由" (Liberty/Freedom) and "独立" (Independence). In 1994, they had the flagship "解放" again, and the others like "統一" (Unification), "栄光" (Glory), also again "独立" and so on. They also have submarine, "八月十五日級" (15th August-class), and one of them is "真岡"(Maoka, name of the port city).

From these names, It feels like RGF named their ships the auspicious words than the names of place or historical characters. Perhaps that's because red Japan has very short history and small administration area, moreover names of places are named in IJN and JMSDF. From outside of the story, we Japanese reader aren't used to naming people names as warships, so if NJ ships were named after socialists' names, we feel them stupid.

Thank you for putting this together. And yes, that's what I mean by title. The name of the branch. I think it can work on a cap band where a name of a ship would go. Work for an Honour Guard group too.

I think I could use either of the first two titles you've given me. Other than that, I'd like to know which one you'd prefer. 赤衛艦隊 or 日本赤衛艦隊? The latter sounds more official, but the former is straight to the point.

Excellent! These names for vessels will prove very useful for depictions. I had a feeling they'd name their vessels after such things. Better than naming them after something overly socialist. The names also, to me at least, bring up thoughts of what the PRJ intends to do one day. Or at least celebrate itself. Perhaps such names can inspire someone? Instill a sense of morale?

Considering the PRJ's short existence, I don't imagine they'd have many people of significance to name their ships after or even do the usual trope where classes of ships are named after cities. Besides naming vessels after cities, I can see that it may look stupid to name a ship after the names of prominent socialists, or even people. Is it because it comes off as egotistical, or overly prideful? I have some understanding that culturally, that isn't too acceptable and as you've said, seem stupid.

Once again. Thank you for your time and help!

KaniShimada In reply to HonourableArthur [2018-06-21 15:16:52 +0000 UTC]

It seems my words were not enough.

In the novel, "The Red guards Fleet" isn't used as a name of an honor guard group, but as the generic name of the whole PRJ Navy. That's strange naming I think, but anyway they are called so in the book.

And this is out of description in the book, I think 日本赤衛艦隊 is more official as you said. Through using this name, I think PRJ can claim that they are "the real Japan" against SJ and to the world.

About the names, you pointed again that I didn't realize. These names are from that PRJ wanted to do, especially 解放 and 統一 were. PRJ was a piece of the house divided, so as you pointed, these names must have helped to improve morale.

The phrase "stupid" might be mistake. RGF in the novel wouldn't think such about this issue.

This point is in OTL.

As a premise, this novel was written for Japanese people. On the other hand, modern Japanese navies i.e. both of IJN and JMSDF in OTL, never named their vessels from the prominent figures. For this reason, many Japanese reader were having a prejudice that "ships named from people's name aren't Japanese warships". So despite it's an AH, readers feel something strange about the appearance of Japanese warships with people's names. That's why I said if NJ ships~ etc.

On the contrary, there are works that emphasized "This timeline isn't OTL" by Japanese carriers named after historical figures appear. Whatever, in their timeline, the reason was just lack of the place or people, as you suggested.

Thanks for the comment on the Romilian Army.

Their uniform during the Warsaw Pact era was the era that it resembled the Soviet Army at most; indeed, the first uniforms of the Romilian People's Army are just Soviet uniforms slapped with national insignias. Even the ranks are more or less, the same as the Soviet Army. I think they resemble Albanian Army uniforms before 1965 which are very Soviet-styled until Hoxha broke with the Soviets. Only after the fall of communism they were able to get rid of the Soviet-style uniforms and instituted a completely different uniform system.

My pleasure. That update to the Household Division deviation you fellows did impressed me so much. I loved that Regimental Sergeant Major, especially with his pace stick! I also liked the detail of the M1897 Infantry Sword too! The bearskins are looking much more detailed also.

I hope you won't take this as - by me, but I'd love to put that pace stick and arm pose to use some day. Of course, you'll be credited for it. As is etiquette and the rules. Like I had done with the shape of the sailor's cap you've done with that Sea Cadet. I could never get the shape right... But thanks to you, my sailor suits are complete. Thank you.

Yes, I've seen that type of thing come and go whilst being on DeviantArt for the past year and a half now. Sad, but a fact, if not irritating for those affected.

One thing I forgot to ask was if you had a full version of the sword around? I noticed that the top half of the hilt is obscured by the RSM's arm. I've always envisioned the M1897 Infantry Sword as the main arm for officers in my little projects. At least the ones up to the rank of Brigadier.

Ah! May I also thank you for the favourite as well.

Do you have an idea of what Tibetan uniforms would look like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HonourableArthur In reply to kyuzoaoi [2017-10-08 13:41:12 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... I couldn't put my finger on that right away, honestly. But I do remember you did some rank insignias for the Tibetan Army that you released. Which, were influenced by the Indian Army, if I am not mistaken? I quite liked them, the colours and the insignias used in place of the St. Edwards Crown and pips. Very clever.

As for a uniform look of that nature, I'd think it'll lean towards what Bhutan or perhaps Nepal have. The idea you have here will require me to become a little more acquainted with the uniforms of the two nations I mentioned, rather a more detailed look. But, that's what I think.

HonourableArthur In reply to Wyyt [2017-10-06 17:31:16 +0000 UTC]

This is quite possibly one of the nicest things I've received this year, if not in recent memory! I did have a good birthday (Given the time difference, I am using past tense). It went nicely than I expected it to be, which is great! It may be a big year, but it is almost over. I cannot say it was overly big on my end, but like everyone else. I must keep going forward.

Yes, we may not talk too much anymore, but I am not too sure what you may owe me in return. Can't put my finger on that, actually, but I think you mean well by that. To be kind. To be a good friend, which you have been over these past 3 years now. We all have our periods of contact and no contact. It comes and goes in troves. That's how it is, and how I think it'll be. Right now, it seems to be in the latter. I do hope that it rolls back sometime soon.

I have thought of a couple niche topics to discuss with you someday. For a while now, I have been thinking about how the Makmurian immigrants that arrived in Krasnarus during the 80s adapted to such a foreign place. How they integrated and inevitably, leave their own mark on the nation's future society. Although it wouldn't be really significant. Probably just a few Makmurian restaurants or family run businesses in the larger cities. I picture them to live along the coast of the Black Sea, where it's usually warm and humid year round, compared to the capital up north. Or perhaps they would be the like the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic? An anomaly in that area of the world, exist, but don't seem to be noticed by the common person or eye. Whatever we conclude, I'll look forward to that discussion sometime.

Yes, I shouldn't settle... But to love? Hmm...

That is very true. They're not to be underestimated. Even if at times they injure themselves by hoping into a farmer's fence. For all I know, it could be electrified. Still, they have some interesting senses, like being able to "sniff" out ground water to drink. Of course, they'll dig to get to it.

Italian-Indonesian eh? Never knew that was a thing! Yes, i am proud of my heritage, my roots, as it makes up a part of who I am. Of course, I'm not over zealous about this to others, or anyone for that matter.

The youth's relative indifference to their nation, nationality and heritage seems to be more of a prevalent thing. Especially in the West, but I am rather surprised this is happening over there. Although I did get a sense of it when I was visiting recently. I suppose this could be a byproduct of individualism and quite possibly the culture if political correctness... But i won't get into that kettle of fish.

I'm also one to be interested in the heritage and background if others. I find it an interesting topic myself.
