# About me

Hey, my name is Koen and I like playing with words. In the past I enjoyed making small rhymes in my mind, and they stayed there. But last year I've had a lot of fun writing reviews and I think it's time for the rhymes too to come out! So that's what you'll find here. Reviews of Fantasy-novels and small poems about whatever I was thinking about at the moment.

Thanks so much for watching our hats!

I do so with extreme pleasure, they're absolutely amazing!
Sometimes it makes me feel inadequate though, with my own top hat being unadorned

Hey Mike, it's been too long right ^^
I'm currently fooling around in New Zealand for an internship, and I'm loving every minute of it! I help disabled people to become self-sufficient, which is just so much fun and so rewarding to do And in the weekends I travel around to do some sight-seeing of course, of which I'm regularly posting pictures on facebook.
Are you on leave for a while now?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

D-E-M-Emrys In reply to Huntardpewpew [2012-07-16 09:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Far too long buddy!
NZ!?! That's amazing! I'll rock out on FB and have a lookee-see.
Not leave, just working a job with more time to write etc. Going to start smashing out IBWA - may look to kindle .epub

Huntardpewpew In reply to D-E-M-Emrys [2012-07-17 04:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Yea it's amazing over here
I get plenty of opportunity to travel around, which is absolutely great. It's like a drawn-out vacation really, with a nice job on the side
What kind of job are you doing now, or would that be classified information?
And what does IBWA stand for, I don't think I've read it? It's cool that you're looking into publishing stuff though ^^ Will you publish it yourself or are you trying to find an organisation to do it for you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

D-E-M-Emrys In reply to Huntardpewpew [2012-07-17 05:10:45 +0000 UTC]

How long are you out there for?
Can't say what I'm doing - sorry buddy! lol. Although, it's cool that I can't really >.IBWA stands for 'It Began With Ashes'. I'll probably look into self publishing on the kindle to start with, and go from there.

I've been here for little less than 3 weeks now and I have some 5 weeks to go ^^ I work for 6 weeks (4 days a week) and the weekends and 7th week are solely for travelling, which is absolutely great to do!
Next weekend I'm headed for the capital, including an 8,5h Lord of the Rings tour: should be mighty badass
I figured you couldn't tell, it's no problem of course ^^ Hope you're enjoying the newly found free time?
I did read some of It Began With Ashes I think! It was the prologue right?
If you want me to give it a once-over just give me a holler, what I read so-far was very nice though!
Once you published it I'll make sure to pick it up and I'll see if I can recommend (read: bully) some people to buy it too ^^

D-E-M-Emrys In reply to Huntardpewpew [2012-07-18 05:00:27 +0000 UTC]

What are you doing at the end of the 5 weeks? Back home?
Lord of the Rings Tour?!? YOU WHAT? What will you be doing on that?
Aye, I sent you the prologue back in the day. I'd be more than happy to send on over a copy of the first draft - what's the best email to use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to D-E-M-Emrys [2012-07-19 04:53:07 +0000 UTC]

Yea I have to get back home since University starts again! It's a real bummer for sure, but it'll be good for my wallet xD
The LotR tour is 8,5h and includes the cave where Peter Jackson did all the digital editing and costume creating...
I'd love to read the first draft, I still use koeniepeters@hotmail.com as my go-to email.
I just read your journal and I love seeing the determination that's gotten into you It's amazing how much and how quickly you develop when you're thrown in the right environment, isn't it? I've had the same thing happening to me this past school-year and I'm breaking down my imaginary walls like there's no tomorrow! Just keep following through with it and enjoy the ride, you'll be amazed

Just sent over the first draft - let me know if you get it
Haha, thanks for reading the journal buddy! Just want to get on with it now, I don't want to let it slip through my fingers any longer. Once I get the initial test read done (you, and a few others) I'll re-evaluate where to go from there!

Huntardpewpew In reply to D-E-M-Emrys [2012-07-19 22:25:26 +0000 UTC]

Last year of my bachelor, if all goes well then I'll actually get it, too. So far I've only missed one subject, because I skipped it twice. I should be able to pass that one next semester and assuming that all my subjects next year are doable and I don't swamp myself with too much extra stuff (which, frankly, is way too likely ) I'll get my bachelor within the actual three years, which is very, very rare for my course. Then it's one more year for my Master, which is almost required for Dutch students.

I received the draft, and sent it to my Kindle. Through Word you can convert the .docx to a .pdf, which is safer if you intend on sending it around often. That way no one can edit it but you I'll read it on my kindle and insert comments where needed while doing so, then when I finished I'll send you the comment file so you can see what I thought! That worked pretty well last time, eh?

I should find enough time this weekend to read, since I'll be travelling a lot! I'm off to the capital of NZ for a lotr tour
Good luck with the writing and editing process ^^ I'm rooting for you!

Aye, as long as I can get the comment file open that works by me!

Haha thanks buddy, it's nerve wracking at the moment as I want it to work this time around. Hell, I've already decided that if it doesn't work with a traditional house, I'll self publish in a heart beat.

I actually don't really know yet what it is I want to end up doing. So far I'm tending towards managerial functions or collaborating with people on small projects. I really like it when a plan comes together you know, and taking the forefront just seems natural lately. Must be inspired by all the charismatic leaders from the Fantasy I've read With my current qualifications it should be easily possible to land such a job, and if that fails I can go and get some experience first by doing a job concerning statistics (which earns money like crazy). That's kind of what we're being trained for anyway. Kinda boring though

I finished your book yesterday since I got plenty of time to read during my weekend's travels, I was very impressed! I'll send you the files in a couple of minutes with elaborate feedback. I know how frustrating it is to not get enough feedback so I'll try and make sure that I won't leave you wanting

Huntardpewpew In reply to D-E-M-Emrys [2011-06-04 20:38:26 +0000 UTC]

Haha okay I think I already put the name on my to-read list, but it takes a veeeeeeery good book to justify a story that is dull most of the time! Like Trudi Canavan, I'm reading her 'The Rogue' now, which is the 2nd book in her latest trilogy, and not much is happening really. But the characters she create are so real and interesting, you really feel compassion for all of them and even though it's clear that this book is an interlude towards a great third book, it's still enjoyable to read.

D-E-M-Emrys In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-04 21:31:50 +0000 UTC]

The characters will certainly surprise you!
Northman Logen 'Bloody Nine' Ninefingers - a barbarian that is not all that he seems
Jezal Dan Luthar - Pompous swordsman of the Union and its monarchy
First of the Magi, Bayaz - love him or hate him, he's a true architect in terms of scheming
Ferro Maljinn - Proof that vengeance can fuel every desire
Sand dan Glokta - ex-Colonel to the Union army, turned Inquisitor and torturer
And more besides
Honestly, the character development of each actually had me dumbstruck

As are the books I have to study for my exams next week Q_Q

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-03 00:41:31 +0000 UTC]

I must check out the Mistborn books!
I know, college books are huge, aren't they?! And they're so expensive, too What exams have you next week?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to bluegirl09 [2011-06-03 08:27:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you must
I downloaded 2/3 college books this semester, that worked really well. But then again, I don't really have a study for which you need to read a lot! It's more something you can fall back on if you can't figure out the lecture notes and exercises. I've been studying a lot on my Kindle lately, it displays my lecturenotes perfectly
I've got Introduction To Finance, Introduction To Econometrics and Probability Theory And Statistics next week, with probability being the hardest subject of the first year. I've been rereading (this sounds weird, is it only correct in dutch?) most of my notes so now it's time for a lot of practicing this weekend. I sure hope I'll get all of the subjects in one try

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-04 12:42:33 +0000 UTC]

Where do you find these download-able college books?! I must look for them. I really didn't need to study for first year, because it was ridiculous how easy it was, but next year... well, I think we're getting into chemical science, and I'm just awful at that

You and your bloody kindle! Obsessed you are!

Ugh, those exams sound horrible! But I'm sure you'll just fly through them no problem And yup, rereading is the same in English!

I got your letter, and will have a look over it asap!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to bluegirl09 [2011-06-04 18:00:52 +0000 UTC]

Haha, just type in the title and authors at some torrent sites or at filestube (that one is the most useful) and if you're lucky someone went through the trouble of scanning it! I've hit the jackpot twice this semester that way
The quality is often not that great though, but that's a small price to pay for a free book! (pun sooooooo much intended )
I am indeed quite obsessed with my Kindle, did you know that I can browse the internet on it ? ^^ Now I always have my guides for the RPGs I play on my DS at hand
I've been practicing for a bit last few days and it's going really well. I'll pass two of the three subjects with ease! The last one'll be a tough nut to crack though, but I'm gonna try

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-04 22:49:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to have to check that out! I hope people have scanned the books I need... that would be absolutely brilliant!

You can browse the internet, too?! Kindle is sounding better and better the more I hear of it! I think I'll probably end up getting one of these... someday. In the future. BUT I WILL STILL BUY BOOKS! I will make sure of that!

Guides? Guides? Pah, cheater! (because I never use guides or cheats or anything.... oh no )

You'll get through them all! It's great that you're confident about at least two of them!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to bluegirl09 [2011-06-05 14:06:55 +0000 UTC]

Yea the browser is still experimental but for most purposes it works really well! I often use a walkthrough or Job guide for RPGs that I play on my DS because most of them provide a lot of obtions in terms of classes/jobs, but give little to no information about them. It's very annoying so I just look up what everything does and if it's suited for me! After playing as many RPGs as I have you're just not going to spend all that time on trial-and-error, I want to enjoy the story and the gameplay after all! And walkthroughs are really useful in the RPGs where you don't get much information about what you're supposed to be doing, which I find very annoying XD I've only once used a cheat on my DS and that was not even a real cheat, more like a hack. I had semi-finished pokemon Black (I owned the pokemon league, good enough imo ^^) and for funsies I created a pokemon White save with 6 legendary dragons of L3... it was so insanely overpowered still that it was no fun to play the game xD So much for my dream to become the dragon pokemon league dude Q_Q
Nah, cheating is meant for PC games :>
And now it's off to studying again for me! It's annoying, the site where I always get the exams of the previous years is faulty at the moment, so I have to actually study I sure hope it'll be up by friday because I will need to practice a lot for the last exam!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-05 16:41:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty much the same for RPGs - walkthrough only if I'm really stuck and really, really frustrated. It's always more satisfying to figure it out for yourself! But then again, being stuck with something is just annoying.

I do use cheats, though As you said, I play for the story-line more than anything

Awwww you poor thing You're on your summer vacation once these exams are done with though, right? Our exam was an exact copy of a previous exam - great, except that the answers to that exam hadn't been on the web, so it was still kind of guesswork!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to bluegirl09 [2011-06-05 18:09:27 +0000 UTC]

Exactly ^^ Walking around clueless too much just drains all of the fun out of a game!
I'm a big fan of working out cool tactics in the battle/class systems, that's where I get my fun, not out of figuring out where the hell I'm supposed to go xD I'm perfectly happy with a straightforward road to follow As long as there's plenty of good story and fun characters along that road ^^
I use cheats when I'm too lazy to grind stuff. Killing tons of the same mobs for cash or experience is such a chore, I avoid it any way I can ^^ +999999 money? kthxbai.

Well, I've got 3 exams the next week, then I've got a week of semi-vacation (still have to work at the store and tutor my 2 students), then I have one resit the week after (I didn't agree with my grade Only a 6, tsk tsk), then I have another week of vacation, and then I have 3 resits if I need them (I won't know until... well... the week in advance I think). Those'll be the resits of my exams next week, but I'm counting on me passing all of them with flair For the rest it's work work tutor tutor game game read read!

So... I expect you to beam my kindle up with a copy of one of your books by next weekend I have to finish re(ad / view)ing 2 books for FBR, but I'll have plenty of time to read your and Mike's stuff ^^
Did you look at my aspiration letter yet? I was planning to send it today or tomorrow so I'd appreciate it if you could give me some critique beforehand!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-05 18:42:56 +0000 UTC]

Exactly - something I loved in Oblivion was that you could teleport to anywhere - unlike in Dragon Age 2, where you had to walk. Boooooooooooring! Meh, I hate the battle tactics - I just don't understand them! I really just play for the story... maybe the fighting if I'm in a bad mood - TAKE THAT! HA!

Oh wow, busy vacation planned out for you! But at least you won't get bored Do you have to pay for re-sits? We do, and it's about €80, I think not good! My friend is in college in Wales, and she's getting a grant to pay for her accommodation and things from the Irish government, but if she fails anything they stop the grant. So if she fails, she basically cannot go back to college!

Heehee, beaming up I will do! I'm supposed to be going to France on Wednesday for three weeks - which means no internet and no dA - but the only airline that flies direct from Dublin to Geneva, which is the closest airport to us, are going on strike from Tuesday, which means no flights! I'm furious >

I've sent your aspiration letter back! It was very well done and didn't really require anything - just a couple of points that could be made a little clearer! I put them in red

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntardpewpew In reply to bluegirl09 [2011-06-05 19:23:51 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah ^^ Poof and you're where you want to be!! It's not the right time of day to break into houses? No problem! 'T', select couple of hours and voila, time to pry open some locks! That's how I spent most of my time in Oblivion actually xD I didn't really care for the dungeons, so I made it my hobby to break into every house! This one time I found some insane assassin clothing in a barrel somewhere, from that point on all my new characters went there first thing after creation to get that sick robe and hat xD (with a little help from the console to open the Very Hard lock xD).
Battle Tactics rΓ©ally are my thing^^ I take sooooo much pleasure from not even coming close to dying because I have badass tactics Especially in DA because you can set it up as you please

We (luckily) don't have to pay for resits no, we can do them as often as we like I think! Which is of course veeeeery useful for increasing your grades a little over time --> good for CV! All the resits are in time periods that are nearly the same for all your years so it does have some form of a limit
Can't your friend continue going to college if she manages to pay for it in another way? All students in the Netherlands get a loan from the government which allows us to attend college even if our parents cannot afford it at a very low interest rate, which is additionally paid back over a lΓ³t of years. So basically you can study whatever you want, and you get financed for up to 10 years of doing so. If you get your bachelor the first 4 years of this 'study-finance' will be 'redeemed' it's called I think, you don't have to pay it anymore because you're now useful to society. So if you perform really well it's very cheap to go to college here. If you slack it gets a little more expensive, but even then it's only a small monthly fee you have to pay. And that fee is paid when you (should) have a job in your respective field so you can easily miss it by then! Great system, although not very encouring for most people, haha

Awww.. how long will they be on strike? A day? A week? Maybe you can go the thursday or something?

Thanks a lot for looking at the letter I knΓ©w there were bound to be a few dutchifications in it ^^ Those are almost impossible for me or my friends/parents to find because well.... we're dutch xD Now all I have to do to finish my application is make a picture of myself xD Time to put some clothes on I guess and find the camera, it's waaaaaaaaaay to warm here Q_Q 'Bloody weather!' as the English would say

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegirl09 In reply to Huntardpewpew [2011-06-06 19:00:41 +0000 UTC]

I loooooooove Oblivion... I've started to play it again And The Shivering Isles - wonderful! I can't wait until the new 'Elder Scrolls' game comes out Though it better be laptop friendly *glares at The Witcher 2*

Wow, so basically you can just keep doing the exam over and over... is it the same questions every time? I hope not! that would just be unfair... for those of us who can't re-do it without paying. My friend could indeed go on with college if she could pay otherwise, but she said that her problem is that she can't afford it otherwise! I don't think we really have those student loans in Ireland, and we can't get them in the UK because we're not UK citizens Catch 22! I'd be tempted to get one, if I could... but then, you always have to pay them back...

THEY'RE NOT ON STRIKE ANY MORE!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I'm so happy France day after tomorrow! ^_^ Heat! Sunshine! YAY!

I still think you should have sent that wizard photo in. It would be hilarious, and would so get them to pick you

Hehe, the graphics of Skyrim looked pretty badass but knowing Bethesda they'll have a LOT of options to scale it down ^^ I tried their latest Hunted: The Demons Forge last weekend and it was very badass, and I could eeeeasily play it! Those guys know what they're doing ^^ *Also glares at Witcher 2* ^^

Yea we can do it as often as we like, as long as we don't have any other obligations on the day of the resit (once the original exam and once the resit every year). It's different than the previous ones of course, but still rather similar. That's why I love practicing with old exams!
Those loans are indeed something that not many countries have! They're going to put a LOT more restrictions on it though (you will have to pay a big fine if you get a delay in your course) so that'll even it out again. The paying back really isn't a problem here because there's a very low interest rate on these loans and you pay it back over decades so you barely even notice it when you've got a job! ^^

I'm glad you can go to France after all Hope you have a great time! Where in France are you going?

My application is for a rather serious and special Program, I'm not going to send in a carnaval picture xD (carnaval is a local yearly fest here where you dress up and make noise) If they'd think it was silly they'd just drop me from the nominees and with my CV and Aspiration Letter I'm sure I'll make an impression on them anyhow! ^^

AHHH!!!! Skyrim looks so COOL!!! Yay oh I'm so excited! SO EXCITED If it's another Witcher 2 fiasco, I will be most displeased. Then I'll really have to get some kind of console, or at least upgrade my laptop... or get a desktop computer.

I suppose there are only so many questions they can ask about certain subjects, so the exams are all bound to be alike! Or at least, only so many questions the teachers can be bothered to correct I think in Britain you don't have to start paying back student loans until you have an income above a certain amount - is it the same for you?

I'm going to the usual place in France - Annecy! It's just beside Geneva in Switzerland; lots of mountains and lakes I love it there, even though I'm awful at French... Have you any holidays planned for your vacation, or will you be working all summer? Was London wonderful last year?

I so dare you to dress up as a wizard if you have an interview - 'I'm a maths wizard!'

Yea we have various stuff that we need to be able to do as econometricians so that's what they focus on in all the exams ^^ It's a rather application-focused mathematics course after all!
Once you stop studying or once the 10-year limit is up you have to start paying it back. But like I said, it's only a small fee every month so it's no big deal if you have finished your studies and found work in your field ^^

I do remember the name Annecy, haha Didn't your parents have a house there or something? It sounds lovely! And you're probably a 100 times better at French than I am, haha xD je suis très horrendeux? Whatevs

London will be this year by the way, the first 4 days of August ^^ Can't waaaaaaaaaaaait!!!
For the rest it'll be reading and working and hanging out with friends

IV:"Eh... what the hell are you doing?"
Me:"I'm a mathemagician "
IV:*facepalms*

Yea I can see that working out

Cool, cool, that's not too bad! I should really look into getting one, rather than getting my parents to pay for everything... but whatever

Everyone thinks I should be good at French. I'm really not! I'm awful, in fact

Is London this year? My God. I could have sworn that was last year! Weird... time going slowly, all of a sudden... It will be brilliant, though! I was there for a day last summer - my first time - and I loved it! I'd love to go back and go to a show or something sometime. I must get the girls to go over!

I think it would be more like 'High five, so am I!'

As long as your parents pay it's all good right? ^^
French is a horrible language to learn, I remember xD And those guys talk so FAST O.o It's like they don't wΓ‘nt you to understand them!

Time's flying for me, and London is creeping closer and closer Almost!

And this Outreaching Program is for all studies on our University, which are a LOT of different faculties. So we econometrician really are the math wizards, and I know that both project-leaders are not ^^ I sure can't wait though, should be a blast!

Have a great time tomorrow And the 3 weeks afterwards too of course ^^

Heehee, I'm just waiting for them to tell me it's not! I think I might be able to get a government grant this year, though... I'm going to try, anyway!

Yay for London!!

Well... in that case, we won't go with the wizard costume then.

I will try! ^_^

In the middle of 'Joe Abercrombie: The Blade Itself'. Part of the 'First Law' series. So far, very promising! I think you'd like it!

I'll put it on my to-read list, Abercrombies ratings are very high on FantasyBookReview ^^
I've been insanely busy lately, hence my absence Deadlines are a bitch ^^ Finished my last mid-term today so that means that I haven't got any priority stuff for the coming 3-ish weeks Time to read your chapters and some other books in other words Finished the Mistborn Trilogy this evening. Best series I've read hands down. Brandon Sanderson is the best writer around right now in my opinion. The series was just... perfect. Absolutely flawless in every single way, I'm sold. Utterly sold! I like being sold!
Everything fine over there in Wales? ^^

We have a heat wave! I'm DEFINITELY not complaining! XD

CoR is going through heavy edits. I'm literally beating it blue and black with the editorial stick. Time to up the pace, hone the edge and trim the fringes. Every writer has a 'voice' in their work - or so I like to think - and I'm trying to bring out mine from behind the mass details of world building and heavily descriptive 'purple prose'.

Abercrombie is awe inspiring. Sand Dan Glokta is easily one of the most insanely inventive characters that I have ever read. Will definitely check out the Mistborn trilogy though! If it comes with your seal of approval, I think I'm pretty much sold already!

A heat wave? Sweet! XD Must be busy on the beach then

Glad to see you're still putting a lot of effort into your series ^^ As a fellow artist I know that it's veeeeeeeeeeeeeery hard to be content with your own work xD It can always get better, right? ^^
You're right that every writer has his own 'voice', I always love finding out what it is Should be able to make some time for CoR the coming days!

You have my ]Seal of Approval indeed ^_^

Uber busy my friend! As long as the wind is neither too strong or non-existent we'll be in for a cracking summer.

Always, always, always better. But when you've got high hopes (like mine of one day being in the running for the DG legend award XD) you've got to have high standards.

I actually lol'd at that picture!
