Thank you my friend, I see that you've been very busy with your beautiful art, you just get better all the time. My art has taken a turn towards classic cars for the last several years but I am now preparing a third edition of my Lovecraft Tarot so I hope to post some new art soon. Stay warm...this has been a cold winter, even here in South Carolina. I can't imagine how cold it is in Quebec.

Yes, it's rather cold here in Canada in general.
It's good to hear from you and that all is well.

I know the cold too well...I'm from Michigan myself, I'm here in South Carolina now. It's good to see that you've been very active creating art, I've not done much hand illustration lately, mostly computer art using Adobe Illustrator to do classic car art, I'll have to post some to my site.

Thanks Marc...I'll post some of them, they were all done in Adobe Illustrator. Mostly classic muscle cars, but also Bugatti's and Ferrari's.

I love to see drawings of cars but unfortunately have no patience to draw them myself. I prefer drawing organic subjects.
I've only drawn one car in my career.

It does take a bit of patience, especially to create a photo-realistic piece of work, but you also have a great deal of patience to create your wonderful artwork, I'm always in awe of what you can do. The nice thing with Adobe Illustrator is than anything can be undone, changed, or re-colored at any time. I'll post some car art this weekend. Do you have a preference for American muscle, or the classic Ferrari's and Bugatti's? It's interesting that Ford changes the names of cars built in Canada, funny how that works, it's the same car in every respect except the name.

I don't know much about cars, so your drawings will all be equally impressive.

Marc, You will soon be a classic car expert, I just loaded all of the illustrations except for a few. I hope they appear OK, I set up a separate gallery so let's hope this works.

I really should do something, this all began with my desire to have a real nice car print but the photos always had bad reflections and never looked goo when the print was enlarged. I'd like to sell prints, creating art is easy...marketing is a difficult thing.

With it being shut down, would you be able to just go there or would you have to get permission from someone???

I have a friend who does the urban exploration in the slums of Detroit, as a white boy, he's got more guts than I do, or maybe he's just dumber. He opened a door one time and came face to face with a zombie, a guy so stoned on dope that he just stood there staring. Then he explored an insane asylum, picking up some strait-jackets and a mortuary where he found some cool funeral items. You have to sneak in and take your chances, some sites about urban archaelogy off some great tips, especially for not getting caught by the cops. I take my camera wherever I go, mostly abandoned houses and cemeteries.

Wow, I guess you would run into some interesting people while photographing in places like that lol. That you would be scary. Yea, I have got to go photograph some abandoned house when I was in high school. And there was a local asylum type place. Its just a house but a lot of the inside was at one time some sort of hospital. Yea, I know all about photographing in places where Im not supposed to be. I got arrested one time, taking pictures on top of a building downtown. I wasnt doing anything wrong. I guess he was bored.

Hutchinson1860 In reply to rlplymale [2012-02-13 00:09:01 +0000 UTC]

I like taking photos in cemeteries because they're always to the public and you can't get nailed for trespassing, but then you don't get that adrenelin rush from nearly getting caught where you're not supposed to be. The coolest places to explore would be underground, like the catacombs in Paris. I recently read about an abandoned subway station in New York which was discovered, it was walled off decades ago and forgotten about, it had a beautiful art deco design to it and there was even an oil painting hanging on the wall, a time capsule.

Michigan sounds so mundane, and it was cold enough to be Antartica. I live in South Carolina now, I lived in Florida for a bit but it was too damn hot and humid, so I'm sort of half way between now. Guess I'm hard to please.

O I see. I love the Carolinas. Yea I have been to Florida a few times. Too hot, too many fire ants...

You summed up Florida, too hot, too many fire ants, and too many people too. I was sick of the artic weather in Michigan so I moved to Tallahassee and Tampa, not to bad there, but it never cooled down. It's pretty here, not far from the coast and I'm in the foothills of the mountains. I live in what used to be known as the "Dark Corners" sort of appropriate for me. It used to be a no-mans land filled with moonshiners and brigands, I love the history. The territory used to belong to the Cherokee before they sided with the British and were given their walking papers.

Good old corn liquor, you can buy it in at the store the Mason jar now, it's an acquired taste, I drink beer as it's hard to pace yourself with the hard stuff, but it's good to have a shot of Jamison's Irish whiskey once in awhile. I enjoy history, I especially like to know the history of the place where I live. I did find the exact spot where the old insane asylum was built, it's been demolished years ago but the foundation is still there, the funny thing is that it's now a park for kids. I had hoped to explore the place as I enjoy that sort of thing.

O yes, I am a whiskey man. I dont drink a lot at all but its always good to have a small glass every now and then.

What an odd place for a playground lol hahahaha. But I guess kids need a place to play. I like exploring old places like that. They are kinda eerie and freak me out but just going into places like that, you can just feel the history. Theyre also good for taking pictures. Im no photographer but you can still get some spooky stuff. THere is actually an asylum about 60 miles from where I live in Mansfield. You can go for tours and around Halloween, you can stay the night there. I have never done it. I cant get anyone to go. It freaks them out too much hahaha. I think they shotthe movie The Shawshank Redemption there also...I think...???

Sometimes a grainy high contrast photo can be more eerie looking than one shot from an expensive camera. Have you seen the movie "Begotten," directed by E. Elias Merhige? It's shot in black and white and the film was aged so that it looks like it was shot in the twenties. It is an experience rather than a movie, it looks low budget but Merhige said that for each minute of original film, it took up to 10 hours to rephotograph it for the look desired.
