Most subs feel they have to be mean and threatening and authoritarian.

Yeah, I guess it kind of makes sense because it's fair to say that students often try to take advantage of a sub, so often people over-compensate I guess...?
But still,I've had, like, three nice subs in my school history and they've always ended up having complete control of the class, so, uh, yeah.

I think that the students always enjoy being treated respectfully. Drawing all over the boards doesn't hurt either.

Yeah, it never inspires good feeling when someone you don't know comes in and starts treating you like dirt.
Not at all! In my time at school I've never had anyone draw on the boards. I did have one sub, though, who came in to cover a Chemistry lesson and decided that he'd leave the worksheets at the front and spend a whole double period teaching us all how to mime.

That sounds amusing.
I always make sure the assignment gets done. If they finish early, though, I'll teach them how to draw someone easy, like SpongeBob. And I make portraits of them. I can usually turn out about three in ten minutes. They come out pretty well. Here's an example:

But I don't think there are any other subs who do anything even vaguely this. If you can draw well, you usually find some profession where you can, even obliquely, use that ability. And if you're a good teacher, you quickly get a job teaching. Most subs are younger teachers who cannot find a full-time job and are inexperienced, or retired teachers looking to make a few extra bucks. Either way, they're not there because they love it. And the students can tell that immediately. I, on the other hand, because of the autism, would not want to stay in one place for long and be expected to make relationships (especially with other teachers), which I cannot do. I like changing jobs every day. And the students can tell that I like being there with them. I've been doing this for about 20 years.

Right, I was attempting to go through some of the deviations I get everyday, and was reading Pictures for Sad Children comics at the same time. I just came across a comic that was "a brief history of art" and it was a person saying "look" and then "look at me". I was just thinking, c'mon, there must be more to art than that?! Just then, I clicked on to the tab I had for all those deviants, and saw that the one at the end of the row I was looking at was titled "Look at me". It was a surreal moment for me.
Actually, I don't even know if that story sounds that interesting. It was! I think you just need me there to read this out in the right tone of voice.
... Right, I'm going to get some sleep now, I think I need it after all that rambling
