Phoenix looked up from Torrinthalis to see a young man walk toward her. "How may I be of service to you my dear?" She eyed him thoughtfully sensing an aura similar to her own.

She smiled back at him. "Well for one thing, you do not have to kneel so." She pulled him up to his feet. He stood a few inches taller than her, with short raven black hair and vivid green eyes. He had tattoo markings lining one cheek as though symbolizing a past clan he had been with.

Velkan let her pull him up and looked at her with his vivid green. He brushed he hands through his hair, but a expression for gratitude on his face and maybe even a smile. He was not sure, it had been so long since he lasted smiled.
'As you command milady"

She nodded and motioned to the chair beside her that had appeared out of nowhere, several chairs actually did, rising at various degrees for the members of her Convenant that had already appeared. "Come sit all of you. We all have stories to tell. Or that which we wish not to reveal. I shall promise you this, tell me your stories, they shall remain safe with me." She smiled gently at Velkan. "From your looks, you appear to need some sleep and food before too long."

A grey moth suddenly flew from the shadows to the arm of the chair next to Phoenix. Asper followed after and bowed her head respectfully to the queen. "I have compiled a list of members," she said softly, presenting a peice of parchment to Phoenix. Written across it in a spidery hand were the names of the members of the Covenant:

Phoenix watched the dust fly off before turning to Asper. "Yes my dear, that is very well done. We shall see about Lord Velkan when he returns. For now...let us put him down as at least undecided at the moment hmm?" She grinned slightly.

Asper nodded and pulled a black feather quill from a small pocket sewn onto her bodice. After scratching the name of Velkan Thorn across the parchment, she rolled it up and replaced the quill in her pocket. The moth fluttered to her shoulder again, the color of its dull grey wings now matching Asper's eyes as she studied the room in silence.

Finally we come to Asper Opacus who is our Scribe and a fellow member of the Shapeshifter Council." Phoenix smiled gently, "No thanks are needed from us we are to do our duties to all Immortals."

A flicker and flash of red appeared in midair, about ten paces from the dais, at the name "Ivy." It expanded into the form of a tiny red bird, no larger than a titmouse, and hopped forward towards the Queen, bobbing its head. It fluttered up to eye level and vanished in a puff of sandalwood scented smoke, leaving behind a strip of gold-edged parchment paper that fluttered into Phoenix's hand.
Curling across the page in a willowy yet firm hand were the words: "Am being detained at home by urgent family business. Would prefer not to provide details. Will return as soon as possible, most likely within two or three days, barring problems along the way. Salutations and well-wishes to the Convenant. Ivy."
The paper crumbled to a fine powder after a minute had passed, sifting through the vampire's fingers and floating down to the floor.

Ivy rode the tradewinds away from the tower in the shape of a reddish-colored hawk, heading towards the rising moon and a city of mages she knew of that lay hidden in a valley across the mountains. Something tugged on the edge of her consciousness, and she let herself float lower, circling down towards the trees on the border of a clearing in the center of the forest. She perched on a branch about halfway up the trunk of a massive oak, changing into the form of a dark-plumed owl. Cocking her head, she stared with far-seeing at the ground spread out below her.
"There's something... or someone... down here. Something's pulling me here," she thought. She ruffled her feathers and crouched closer to the tree. "Could it be that Lord Justice is asking me to act for Him again?" she wondered.
As she watched, a number of shadows detached themselves from the gathering gloom beneath the trees and crept into the clearing, bushy tails sweeping the ground behind them. The pack of wolves gathered around a majestic black male, his coat and pure white fangs gleaming in the moonlight. "Comrades," he began, his voice harsh and booming. "You have done well today."
Ivy's golden eyes narrowed a little, as much as her owl anatomy would allow. "Werewolves," she thought. "Are they the same ones the Lady Phoenix spoke of?"
The alpha continued, "That vampire wench came to us today, seeking to draw us into her... coven..." As he said the word "coven," a sneer curled along his long lips, and his derision was greeted with growls and yips of agreement from his pack. "She didn't get the message when I told her what we thought of her and her kind, those walking corpses that menace with fangs not even half as long or sharp as ours, corpses that must hide from the daylight when we can walk abroad as men, with no one the wiser. She persisted as if she didn't hear a word we had said, so we taught her a little lesson about what happens when someone defies the Nightbane Clan. With claws and fangs, we taught her to respect the werekind, who owe fealty to none but ourselves."
Amidst the tumult of celebratory howling and baying, Ivy switched to the form of a sepia-colored squirrel and clambered up to the topmost branches of the oak, where she resumed her natural form. Blue eyes glinting with anger, she held out her hands so that they framed the clearing, the middle fingers and thumb of each hand touching. She closed her eyes briefly, whispered two short syllables, and drew her right hand around her left so that the arc of its motion formed a hemisphere in the night air.
The grass at the very edges of the clearing began to glow a faint orange color that pulsed like the embers of a dying fire. The glow, so faint as to be hardly perceptible by the naked eye, spread up and out into the air, forming a dome over the werewolf clan. Ivy snapped her palms together with a crack that cause the alpha male to snap his head up, his obsidian-black eyes staring directly at her, first in fear then in quick-rising rage. In that same moment, the dome burst into flame around and above him.
She could hear the screams of the werewolves as they tried to escape from their burning prison. Silently, she climbed down the oak tree and dropped to the ground. Without batting an eye, she walked directly through the wall of fire.

flamedraconian In reply to flamedraconian [2004-05-16 01:32:10 +0000 UTC]
Within, the some of the werewolves huddled against each other as others raced around the circumference of the dome, searching for a gap to leap through to freedom. Most of them had singed their fur, and she could smell a hint of burning flesh in the air.
The moment he saw her, the alpha male sprang forth, snarling, βYOU!β
She dodged his lunge, and he skidded to a stop, just bare inches from the dome. He whirled around and shrieked, βWHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GET HER!β
In an instant, the pack was upon her. With the first bite, the dome vanished, emboldening the werewolves even further. As she stood, they tore at her clothing and bit her flesh, releasing clear, gold-tinted blood that streamed down her arms and legs and from her throat and face. After several minutes, they drew back, panting, exhausted from their efforts. She had sunk to her knees during the fray, her head drooping forward and her eyes closed, blood still leaking from her innumerable wounds.
The alpha male strutted up in front of her, leering. βWell, little girl?β he taunted. βWhereβre your little fire tricks now?β
She opened her eyes slowly and raised them to his muzzle. βRight here.β
Beams of light suddenly shot forth from every cut on her body, engulfing both of them in a blaze of white that trapped the rest of the pack in its brilliance. When it finally faded, Ivy stood before them in the ruin of her clothing, without a single bite or slash on her body. She had drawn her sword, which had remained sheathed in her scabbard the entire time, and was holding its tip directly under the chin of the petrified alpha male.
βHow?β he managed to gasp.
Her lips curled into a faint smile. βStarblood.β
All he could do was gape at her. His pack huddled together behind him, unable to flee from the scene and unwilling to jump in to save their leader.
Ivy abruptly sheathed her sword, although her hand lingered on its hilt. βDo you see how your comrades cower now?β she said to him, loud enough for the pack to hear as well. βIf I were to kill you, they would not help you. To them, your death is a mere inconvenience, until another alpha rises to take your place among them. There is no loyalty among half-wolves, Nightbane.β
βWho β who are you?β
βI? I am Ivy, liaison of the Immortal Convenant.β
His luminous eyes widened. βBut thatβsββ
βThat would be the coven founded by βthat vampire wenchβ you were speaking of.β
He shrank back, careful not to make his fear too obvious to his pack. βShe sent you?β
βShe did no such thing. If you werenβt bragging about so loudly it just now, I would probably never have known.β She leaned in closer. βHowever, I do serve the Lord of Justice, and I will see no wrong unrighted.β
His eyes leapt immediately to her sword.
βDeath is not your price to pay, Nightbane,β she said, in answer to his unasked question. βIt would be unworthy of me to harm the coven in such a manner as to kill you, and it is not just. However,β she pointed at the burns on his once-glossy coat, now dulled and brittle by the heat of the flames, βthis will serve as a reminder to you of the dangers of pride and ignorance. You and your pack shall never be able to regain your pride after this defeat, for all shall know by the singes in your fur that you have faced the Draconian Flame, and lost.
"My advice to you now is to remain in this forest and never show yourselves to the outside world again, much less do any further harm to my coven, unless you desire to face my full, unbridled wrath. And believe me,β she added, flames dancing in the back of her eyes, βbeing trapped in a dome of flames is not the worst thing that can happen to you.β
With one last calm, deadly smile, she vanished in a puff of flame, leaving the werewolves alone in the glade.

Phoenix sat on top of the roof tiles watching the moon pass above her and eyed her wounds. She gathered shadows into her hand and they enveloped her wounds and bound themselves tight around her arm. She hissed a little in pain and sighed, "Now I'm going to have to hunt tonight," she smiled sheepishly, "I knew that it was probably impossible to ask the Weres to join us...but I had to try anyway." She kept her shadowed cloak around her to block the others from the wounds on her before looking around her. "I wonder how Torrin and the others are doing."

A large owl with mottled plumage circled over the tower, occasionally looking down at the woman sitting on its roof. After awhile, it hooted softly, as if reassuring itself of something, and flew away, towards the mountains.

Asper flinched slightly at the light of the flame. The moth on her shoulder flew up and quickly away, singed slightly by the fire. She watched it go, eyes darkening to a dusty grey, and disappeared into the pools of shadow in the throne room.

Phoenix returned sometime soon after, her arms were covered in blood where claws had sunken deep into her arms. "Why did I ever bother with werewolves?" She winced and knew at least one of her arms was at least cracked at the bone. She turned to Asper and smiled faintly. "Don't tell the others...please." With that she disappeared into the shadows and a door just behind the thrown was made visible, as was the tattoo on Phoenix's back. It was a black rose that ran down from between her shoulder blades down to the base of her spine. The same design was printed on the door and it opened at her prescence and shut tight behind her when she entered.

With a flick of her wrists, the fireball dissipated, and she lowered her arms and bowed, one hand over her heart, the other behind her back.
"Many apologies for the dramatic entrance, milady," she murmured. "My name is Ivy Lightbrand, Oak Sage and Grand Chancellor of the Academies of Magic, of Elfstar blood - half sylvan elf, half immortal Starblood. I am called the Draconian Flame by friends and enemies alike. I have been informed of the existence of this coven, and wish to know if it is your pleasure to allow me to join."

"It is our pleasure indeed Draconian. We seek others of the Immortal race to form a Coven, such as the one Vampires alike now rule, in order to find ways all Immortals can coincide with one another." Her smile was grim. "As it now stands most Immortals are at each others throats trying to be more dominant than the other...sometimes resulting in death of an entire peoples."

Asper emerged from the shadows, her cloak gone. Her supple leather boots made no sound upon the floor. Tucked into the tops of her boots, her black trousers were close-fitting. A blood red bodice hugged her waste, sliver threads stitched in intricate spider webs across the silken fabric.
Asper Opacus smiled and bowed her head slightly to the lady Draconian. "Welcome to the Coven," she said softly, a black feather quill held ready over a piece of parchment. She paused as a large grey moth fluttered down and perched on her shoulder, as if ready to hear the conversation. Asper glanced at it, then turned her copper eyes back to the lady. "We currently have two councils: the Elven Council and the Shapeshifter council," she began. "As a new member of the Coven, you are welcome to join an existing council or begin one for your own people."

"I have rarely been in contact with my elven kin since my birth, as I was abandoned to live in the city of multitudes on my own," she replied. "My divine brethren are few and far between, and with our age and power, we tend to guard the interests of our fellow creatures, rather than our welfare as a group. Nay, I will join no council, nor form my own, but if the convenant wills it, I shall act as a mediator between the councils, should they ever come to grief (and I hope and pray to the stars that watched over me since I first drew breath that there shall never be a cruel word or malicious blow exchanged betwixt them), and I shall act as the convenant's representative to the councils of my brethren when they meet in council, at the twilight of the year." "Asper shall help you on that matter, I myself have a werewolf clan being pertinacious towards their view on Vampires and other Shapeshifters, and have tried to reason with me about breaking the Convenant." She shook her head before retreating back into the shadows.

Suddenly, the smoke flashed from soot to flame, heating the stones below until they glowed with their own internal fire. The flames began to rise away from the tiles, revealing a pair of leather boots, covered with thick, heavy buckles. They continues to rise, and a pair a pair of long, slender legs encased in black leggings came into view, followed by a long scarlet skirt, trimmed with gold thread and split at the sides, whipped around her knees by the fire's breeze. A rapier, its hilt sparkling with rubies and diamonds set into gold hung from a scabbard at her waist.
Then a slim torso clothed by a tight-fitting black bodysuit under a short half-jacket, also made of red cloth and trimmed with gold thread, appeared; then the head and shoulders of a young woman with long red curls, slightly pointed ears, and a heart-shaped face framing a pair of blazing blue eyes. Her arms were outstretched above her head, her leather-gloved hands holding a ball of fire that drew in the flames from around her.

Upon seeing smoke from the tower she excused herself from the Werewolves to see what had happened. She appeared in the throne as the shadows dispersed around her and eyed the newcomer. 'Pyromancer, at least,' she thought to herself. "Welcome to the Convenant. How can we help you?"
