"Philosophology is to philosophy as musicology is to music, or as art history and art appreciation to art, or as literary criticism is to creative writing. It's a derivative secondary field, as sometimes parasitic growth that likes to think it controls its host by analyzing and intellectualizing its host's behavior....You can imagine the ridiculousness of an art historian taking his students to museums, having them write a thesis on some historical or technical aspect of what they see there, and after a few years of this giving them degrees that say they are accomplished artists. Yet, ridiculous as it sounds, this is exactly what happens in the philosophology that calls itself philosophy. Students aren't expected to philosophize. They're instructors would hardly know what to say if thy did. They'd probably compare the student's writing to Mill or Kant or somebody like that, find the student's work grossly inferior, and tell him to abandon it."

"Philosophologists often have an interest in creating philosophy but, as philosophologists, they subordinate it, much as a literary scholar might subordinate his own interests in creative writing. Unless they are exceptional they don't consider the creation of philosophy their real line of work."

"Philosophologists not only start by putting the cart first; they usually forget the horse entirely. They say you should read what all the great philosophers of history have said and then you should decide what you want to say. The catch here is that by the time you've read what all the great philosophers of history have said you'll be at least two hundred years old. A second catch is that these great philosophers are very persuasive people and if you read them innocently you may be carried away by what they said and never see what they missed.""Philosophology is to philosophy as musicology is to music, or as art history and art appreciation to art, or as literary criticism is to creative writing. I'd just like to say thank you for the comment on my piece -+Infect+- , In a site awash with anime fangirls and one-shot comments, yours was a true diamond of thought. Much apreciated.

I'd like to change this wonderful site a little...nudge up the quality of the critiques. It's so much fun to help others with their work. I don't understand why so many peopel don't do it.

To be perfectly frank, the majority of people on this site are not mentally capable, nor willing to put thought, time and interpretation into thier comments. They just want comments back or pageviews and whatnot. Entirely selfish, but I can't say too much as I was once like that.

I can't blame people for wanting comments. I don't blame people much at all. I just think that if someone comments on a piece of art, they should do the piece justice.

How did you get interested in philosophy? Your comments on my piece about Locke were much appreciated, and if you read the updated version, I think you'll find it has improved quite a bit because of them. Thanks. .

Im in my last semester as a Philosophy major, creative writing minor. I've always tended to overanalyze, and Philosophy allowed me to take advantage of this!!
