saw your hawkwind t-shirt, yay...

well, in the late 70s early 80s i went into reggae and african music, as well as into a bit of calypso and international folk, thus leaving rock music slowly behind... nowadays i can listen to real rock ony when i see a good live band, haha...

but in the mid 70s i had a pupils exchange to england, and looking at your t-shirt brought back the memory of our journey with the ferry from bremen to dover (when i remember right) - we were several german pupils going into different families for some weeks... anyway, on that boat there was a juke box and there were only three songs we liked: jimi hendrix "all along the watchtower", hawkwind "silver machine" and, especially the girls, rod steward "sailing" - so we listened to those all the time, haha... later i heard some hawkwind live with my brother and then sort of forgot about them completely...

greetings from germany...

feldrand In reply to JanSym [2017-05-15 18:29:35 +0000 UTC]

really? it makes me glad to hear that i did, haha...
even my woman sometimes thinks i´m crazy, because everywhere i go, i talk to the people, make compliments, and try to bring at least a little smile into their faces - it simply makes me sad, to see so many people walk around with dreary and disillusioned expressions in their faces...
a nice little trick here in the village is to make compliments about the garden - you can watch the hearts open up instantly, when you do that...

just recently i came back to other old music - i realized, that my daughter is growing up (soon 14) and doesn´t know anything about the classics of rock and pop because i don´t listen to that at all nowadays - then there was this new version of "sound of silence" by a metal band!!! she listened to it and i found the singer really impressive - i have to admit that, although i`m not a metal fan, haha... well, i looked up the original version and found the first version of simon & garfunkel accompanied only by guitar from 1965 - oh boy, it´s so tender and has got a real neat student feeling to it - we listened together and it was ooo-kay for her...
then she listened to "geil ´ne banane", a silly song from german rappers, which starts with a short sample of the "summertime blues" - ah, i looked up eddie cochran and found a live recording from 1959 (one year after my birth) - we watched that also and she liked it quite a lot, she realized how much it rocked and rolled, despite the performers being dressed in tight suits, and she liked the humor in it - then we watched the woodstock version of the who (my absolute fave band when i was her age) and she went "wow" when they really rocked off and sat there in awe! after that i rembered the flying lizards´version of 79 - oh boy, how extremely silly and wicked, but she also liked that one, haha... from there we went also to other old pop-rock stuff, of course she knows the beatles now and i´ll soon show her the stones, pink floyd a.s.o. yesssss...
everytime i have something to do with young people, i realize, what a long, long musical way i went in my life, and how extremely many comepletely diffrent musical styles i listened to and played also - wow - i´m a rich man! and still curious for new stuff like a little boy - bill drummond is my man at the moment, "imagine waking up tomorrow" must be my film, i want to see it!!!

then i heard that gilli smyth, also known as "shakti yoni" from gong had died (one of my absolute fave bands during the 70s) - i went to gong on youtube and found "camembert électrique" from 71 - and learned, that daevid allen had died a year before - i downloaded that whole album and let it run on my car stereo when we were underway together - she sat in the backseat and i watched her a little in the mirror - her first comment: papa, can you turn a little louder? then i saw, that she smiled at "the right" moments, you know what i mean? it is really wicked, wild and crazy music and she liked it - i love her for that, she´s open for strange things, but she also knows, when she doesn´t like something...
what astonished me was, how fresh that record still sounded to me, and that i still knew almost every bloody note of it, haha...
and now i rediscovered "white noise - an electric storm" - a mega special record from 1969 - that´s the reason why i couldn´t find it before, because it starts with the year in the title...

when you read the comments, you can read mine as "friesiaman s"...

ah, it´s a pity i don´t have your e-mail adress, i so would like to send you some music of mine - i just started a new phase, in which i come back to the german 70s spacy electronic music, combining it with my normal stuff, i like it... feel free to note me, if you´re interested...

dear janice, i just saw, that there is a link to live music of you on your profile, i´ll check that... i´m a member of an eight guy live-session-band "universal sound project" - we just released our third album - there is a short feature about us, it´s in german, but there you can see me, and also take a glimpse into a session...

since about two or three years i´m very much into playing and recording music, and so i´m not too much on dA anymore - but every now and then i drop by again... many of my old dA friends have left completely or have just left their accounts alone - a bit sad sometimes...
hey, i just realize, that your short reply was the most refreshing i read here since a long time, haha...

take a again and all best wishes  from me..........

I have not read it all but I think I love you a bit as I only come on here when I am needy.Your words are very kind and understanding. I think my paternal grandmother was a german jew. 14 year old is so beautiful and amazing like her Dad. My youngest is 22(my baby) and just passed with merit grade 8 classical piano.I play "sound of silence" on the recorder and scarborough fair really good. Our kids are amazing! We can learn a lot from them. My email is very silly and I do not check it often ( more than da)
assasinmum@aol.com. I love music and I give you a big cuddle

GONG!! !!!!

oh boy, did i write much again, please forgive me - i tend to get quite wordy at times...
i play just a little recorder and ocarina (i have a little ocarina collection, one of my fave ones i got through deviant art, a self built wooden one made by an american student, who sent it to me) - my skills in playing them is just enough to put some extras here and there into my other musical recordings...
i have played piano very much for many years, but i´m self taught and my skills are not the best - but it´s enough to entertain a handful of people for quite a while (if they´re not too sophisticated) - i´ll soon send you a recording of one of my piano songs...
if you want a good smile again, i invite you to take a glance into my "old time" folders in my gallery - there are several collections of silly old stuff of mine, drawings, collages, photos...

...und kuscheln und umarmungen sind bei mir immer willkommen...

Hello Holly! Pleased to meet you! I cannot do a critique as I am not premium but I can give you my opinion for what its worth!
I agree with Gra about the reflections( mountains-just a bit of grey wash)and to continue the sunset to the bottom of the pic.
I think you should define the tree near the house more as the form is detailed and beautiful.Maybe a bit of grey wash to the left of the mountains? Dont change it too much!

Thank you so much for an honest opinion! I have a hard time convincing family and friends that that is what I need and want! And I don't necessarily need critiques, just honest opinions on what people might see that I don't! And Thanks again for taking the time!

Good luck for the competition! The trouble with digital is that it is too perfect and emotionless. I did try to nit pick for ya!

MeFlyingFree In reply to JanSym [2012-02-11 00:11:08 +0000 UTC]

Technically, they are not putting it up against the digital works. I made a bit of a fuss about traditional not being included, said that I could use Photoshop to brighten or enhance if I wanted (which I haven't!!!!), They said they would open a new category for traditional. I have been asking other participants to judge it against the other entries as if it were digital. I know! I am asking a lot! We'll see what happens!
