on the contrary, you are a very lucky person to live in an area where you can easily get pictures of wild animals. All you need to do to improve possibly get a camera which is able to take sharper pictures (it doesn't necessarily have to be SLR, I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38 which takes wonderful photos, I know that they label them differently in America. Also, search online for nature photography tips, you'll find lots of useful stuff and you won't have even needed to take photography classes!
