# About me
Hello, my name is Jay Luke. I'm an artist, author, and musician.I have been creating art from a very early age, I just developed a passion for it I suppose. Between art and music I have found some of my greatest outlets and ways to vent my emotions. I have had some of my artwork featured on TV's The OFFICE, and did the Illustrations for the book "Thumbing Through Thoreau."
Regarding artwork I try to work with as many mediums as possible, I feel it keeps things fresh and creativity flowing. I am a big fan of charcoal, oil paint, watercolor, scratchboard, mixed media, and digital work.
My other passions as I mentioned are music ( I am the singer/guitarist in The MESS you can hear our music, vids, pics at the site below or here www.facebook.com/themessofficial) and writing. My band has had the great fortune of opening up for many of our musical heroes growing up and that is such a great feeling. I attribute it all to never giving up and always keeping your eyes on the goal.
I authored the book "When Coal Was Queen" a few years ago and really enjoy the whole writing process. Most of my friends think it's a chaotic life but for me I always feel most comfortable when I have several projects going on at once.

Nice. I've met Michael Monroe and Sami Yaffa twice. The pics are in my folder. Such nice guys. I even gave Michael a portrait I did for him with his best friend who died named Stiv Bators. Meant a ton to me to give him my artwork.

Oh man I like everything. The Heartbreakers album is brilliant from start to finish and I loved his work towards the end of his life to with The Oddballs. I actually know the girl he had in his band Alison Gordy pretty well. So old school Thunders I'd go with Born To Lose and from his last days it's a tie between Some Hearts, and Critics Choice.

His works with Patti Palladin in Copy Cats is pretty cool too. When I first heard "I Was Born to Cry", I did not recognize him at all! His vocals sounded shockingly different than his late 70s/early 80s stuff. Oh, and who knew he could dance like that? xD [link]

WOW, great clips! Have you read the book "In Cold Blood?" It's really good, they also made a movie about him called Born to Lose, but to me the book is better. He was so awesome

Yeah, I wish I could go back in time and see him live xD It sucks being born in '96 when all the good stuff are over.
I haven't read it yet, actually... I would love to get my hands on a copy though. Biographies are all I've been reading lately lol... The last one I read was a Patti Smith one. Before that, I read 'Just Kids', which you should TOTALLY read if you haven't yet... It is such a beautiful tribute to the late Robert Mapplethorpe... Patti is such an amazing writer; I have so much respect for her.

Oh you're a fan of Johnny Thunders too? I look up to him in so many ways... I've done a portrait of him, as well as him with Patti Palladin (cover of Copy Cats). It's really fun drawing him.

I'm not really a Thoreau person, but your illustrations are amazing! Basically, if it's not murder, history, or paranormal, I'm probably not reading it. But through the magic of Kindle and your gorgeous illustrations...now I'm reading Thoreau. Awesome. (P.S. Don't worry totally not web stalking you.
