Hal0s: Cool how far up the sunshine coast? i only did 6 months of an arts degree before leaving. Feel free to ask questions though. If you always wanted to do games animation why don't you?
Preciousthings: sounds a little like graphic design. Were you on holidays? lucky.

Hi hi Sorry took a while to respond. Not logged on in a few days.
Hehe, I guess I give a thumbs up to your movie/music taste
But I don't go to uni - graduated, I'm afraid I did a BA.
I hope you go to UQ, otherwise you're wasting your money at whatever hack uni you go to

Jeremyh In reply to preciousthings [2004-09-17 14:22:58 +0000 UTC]
rip slash! hack uni! hahaha
well that indeed is a large call, but then again UQ students always were arrogant of their institution
BA, majoring in what?
I haven't been logging on as much as I've been meaning to either.

So then I guess you're QUT or Griffith. My sympathies. What you mistake for arrogance is pride in a clearly superior uni
I did a BA. Therefore I majored in slacking (actually english/history & post-grad work in other stuff).

Actually I go to a private uni called QANTM.
I'm getting my Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment (majoring in game animation).
I did half a year of a BA at Griffith and left. I hated it.

I'm enjoying it though it can be tedious and long at times. It's really rewarding in the end though.
what are you doing now after finishing uni?

preciousthings In reply to Jeremyh [2004-09-22 12:49:39 +0000 UTC]
Mm, I work for the government
Bumming Arts student -> slacking govt employee. Kinda figures, huh?
I've been toying with the idea of doing uni or something part time. Not sure if that'd be a bit much for me though

what would you do at uni? What kind of course that is.

Something to do with desktop publishing. Preferably that only went for a year or so. No more 3 year degrees for me

Jeremyh In reply to preciousthings [2004-09-23 20:31:37 +0000 UTC]
yeah I finish my degree next may/april after beginning it in feb this year. I received alot of credit from doing the diploma beforehand. So overall it'll be 2 & 1/3 years.
is desktop publishing like MS word and excell and stuff? I've heard the name so many times but never really sought as to what it meant

preciousthings In reply to Jeremyh [2004-10-09 08:41:17 +0000 UTC]
Urgh, sorry - just replying now. Been sick and stuff
Desktop publishing is more like.. Quark, PageMaker, InDesign...etc. Creating material (like magazines, newsletters, brochures, promo stuff, etc) on your computer. I would give a better explanation if my brain weren't still on holidays.

well I'm jealous of your skill dude and I'm watching you so I can leech and study your style etc.
Come back in a week and I'll have some stuff up that I'm really proud of. At the moment it's being assesed. Oh and it's good to see another artist who is balanced in both 3d and sketching. Something I'm hoping to achieve. Though my 3d modeling skills are lacking due to sketching too much
Do you animate much? Or just model?

Your work is amazing. All i can say is wow, i wish i could do stuff like you, i love all the dark art stuff but whenever i try and draw dark it kinda comes out all pretty. Maybe one day i will get the grip of it!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Jeremyh In reply to expressiveelf [2004-09-04 06:11:53 +0000 UTC]
It may sound really bad but if you want to draw something shocking or dark you should try thinking about people you don't like, times in your life that you wish you could erase or just subjects or concepts that would make you cringe or flinch at first site.
A lot of people for example would feel really uncomfortable drinking from a water fountain if you asked them how much it would hurt if you slammed them in the back of the head while they were drinking. So an image based around this would be quite confronting
or
if you ever felt like you could tear a person apart, put the essence of that feeling into your subject. Let the audience empathise or relate to the subject. Exaggeration and surrealism work well when conveying extreme or complex emotions. For example in some art it's hard to tell whether the person is crying out of happiness or sadness.
