basically you start with the flesh color
and work your way down?
I think your problem is that you tend to mute your colors
Try to choose more vibrant colors to give it the life it needs
Ex://instead of using only one color's value scheme, when you go into shadows for skin, add a little bit of redness to mimic the reflection of the color of the blood beneath the skin.
