Dark Crystal memes are the absolute bestΒ www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVTCBr…
Er zijn er nog veel meer op YouTube, het is zo wild om een nieuw fandom rondom een 30 jaar oude film te zien (en dat na een 30 jaar oud boek... age of revival)

Circle of the Suns on blast I really want to see more of those two and I hope they survive this whole mess. I love how memeable they all turned out to be

Jinjuch In reply to Sunjinjo [2019-10-17 08:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Ofcourse the Skeksis are memeable, it's in their VERY ESSENCE! Hmmmm.

But yeah it's wonderful, the dynamic between skekGra and urGoh also really shows off how things could have been, because despite his good intentions skekGra is still a Skeksis, lacking many inhibitions and being the more callous of the two, less regard for others (calling Hup friend-slave, disabling Lore without a second thought, pushing others into doing what he wants). I find it really interesting to see how they added some unexpected depths to even the most depraved Skeksis (the Emperor and General talking about dreams for example) and explaining just why they fear death so much (it would mean being able to feel remorse and guilt for all their actions again) which also goes a long way to explaining why they act like they do in the first place.

I do wonder what would happen if the Crystal drained a Skeksis. What does their essence look like?
Laid out like that he really is a true Skeksis still. I also love how urGoh is a bit of an asshole, most probably deliberately slowing his speech to annoy skekGra But all in good fun and good nature, like a true Mystic. (and of course I especially love how they canonically spent hundreds of years tripping out on those red berries to figure out prophecies and come up with the idea of the Dual Glaive, hah - hence the aptness of that rave party)

They're really tragic, the only beings that would probably be denied an afterlife or reincarnation. Of course they're terrified. Even being reunited would be agony in comparison, indeed. Reminds me of some versions of Flowey regaining a soul, at first only feeling negative emotions and hating the new burden. And there's also the fact that these eighteen particular UrSkeks were banished from their homeworld for unknown but probably bad shenanigans, only being allowed back when sufficiently purified. It's surprising the Mystics are generally good, really. Then again, they do hide away and do nothing about Skeksis rule when they easily (if morbidly) could. Hmmm.

Jinjuch In reply to Sunjinjo [2019-10-17 15:02:00 +0000 UTC]

No clue, maybe the Crystal wouldn't even be able to do it properly as they are not of Thra? Or it could only drain what they have taken in the intervening time?

It's interesting to see indeed with how they've kept their behaviour traits. Also interesting to see are the parallels between urVa and skekMal, with urVa being exceptionally strong-willed for a Mystic, considering he has a drive to influence the fate of the world while Mystics in general do not have any assertiveness, as that is something the Skeksis inherited. The same strong will can be seen in skekMal who, after taking three arrows that were so painful his counterpart passed out from the shared pain, the Hunter still managed to cage and drag Brea from the desert to the castle on his own. Shame we can't really say too much about other Skeksis/Mystic comparisons as we don't know much about the Mystics in terms of personality. Which is kinda fitting as they are very reserved and placid, as opposed to the extravagant, hedonistic and expressive Skeksis.

The rave party is indeed very apt for skekGra in particular, a high-strung stoner of several centuries.

There is a certain despair to be found in contemplating the fact that, should you ever become whole again, you can feel remorse for all the cruelties you have committed, being self-aware enough that you WOULD feel remorse if you could, but feel nothing but joy at the very same actions now. Maybe that's another reason the more hedonistic Skeksis seem to do worse with long-term planning, they cannot be contemplative or they would realise this. SkekTek seems less affected and more 'sane' than the rest, and more concerned with consequences, skekSil in particular notes the unsustainability of draining so many Gelfling, and skekGra is actively plotting reunion.

That's actually a thing about the Mystics, they are all of the benevolence and wisdom of the urSkeks, but with none of their assertiveness or drive to do anything. They want to be good but their nature doesn't allow them to act at all, really. Hence why the active interference of urVa is so amazing, and even the planning that urGoh gets up to is incredible willpower for a Mystic.

Mal is absolutely feral and I miss him a lot. Hence my hoping for a properly piratical Sa Hehee although Sil does very little provoking, preferring to keep everyone happy and following his agenda, it does fit the effects he usually has
I could watch a Skeksis-only show, honestly. Just give me a Castle of the Crystal soap series/ reality show.

Jinjuch In reply to Sunjinjo [2019-10-26 08:44:58 +0000 UTC]

I miss him a ton too, but he was far to powerful to be left alive. SkekMal vs all of Thra is an unfair fight in his advantage after all. I'm very happy I get to play him as an overarching villain in my new DnD campaign therefore

Properly piratical skekSa would be awesome yeah.

SkekSil does very little direct provoking, though he definitely deals some sneaky slaps, like what he did to poor skekTek and later to the very deserving skekVar.

YES ALL OF MY YES! Perhaps set fairly quickly after the split, just the younger Skeksis living together!

β€œEuripides?” says the tailor.

β€œYeah, Eumenides?” replies the man.
