Jonathon! I dropped by to see if there was some reason you'd stopped writing, and I discover that you've fallen off my watchlist. I thought you were still there, since I still have some of your old deviations in my inbox awaiting review and comment. Damn dA and the software that controls us all!
A most sincere apology, my friend, for what must have seemed an unconscienable indifference to you and your creative efforts. I am quite honestly swamped with work, as I normally am, but I had no intention of forgetting or ignoring you. Please forgive me.

'Tis of little consequence. I barely even post on DA these days - maybe some day if and when I get published we'll see what happens.
My warmest regards.

Enjambment is essentially the technique where you don't have a pause at the end of a line (such as a comma or full stop), but where the line breaks in the middle - resulting in a bit of a rushed effect. In freeverse it lets you highlight certain words or phrases.

"It's you, who claim seduction to my pen
And teeming brain and heart, who never did
Yet promised. You, who called my talents hidden
In a tarnished mind..."
These are the beginnings of a sonnet I tried to write this afternoon. Notice how the punctuation tends to be in the middle of the line? That's enjambment.
Also, read the uber-correct and hyper-excellent Wiki article: [link]

I love your poetry, even thought it has big words in them sometimes. (I'm not too fond of that.) But your poetry makes those big words come to life, and it makes me happy.
Keep up with all the good stuff you have here!

I'm more into Hebrew right now; and so far, I have to rely on some big words - as I'm not yet at the level of Yeats of beauty through simplicity...

Hebrew was my first language (not that that really proves anything), and I still know non-big English words. True, I know more people speaking English but still, your poems are great as they are and I think that the big words make them special.

I'm very Biblical in my language - though I've done some Mishnaic and mediaeval stuff.
Facebook me (Jonathan Howard, S.A.R. '08 and Israel), or e-mail me if you want anything.

Do you remember me? We had a fav-ing, favorable commenting spree a few months ago...
In any case, I wrote a sonnet the other day, and it struck me as very "Jmas-y". Here you go.

Thank you. I'm flattered.
Every piece of mine (I try to make it so, at least) contains an argument, a message, some concept to deliver.
Words don't stand on their own if there's no meaning - that's the rule that guides me.

Hehe, thanks. I'm trying [albeit not very hard] to write some things nowadays...ergh.
Oh my...I was browsing through your gallery, and couldn't help but notice how incredibly diverse your work is. I know absolutely nothing of poetry compared with you...mind showing me the ropes?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Jmas In reply to Gwathelien [2006-07-28 07:05:13 +0000 UTC]
I don't know much about diverse... Sonnets are my main focus (I've written them in altogether about 7 or 8 forms), a few villanelles, and other song-like poems - or ballads.
In content, almost everything is pseudo-teenly, albeit slightly more serious, romantic stuff. Again, my gallery here is incomplete next to the file of poems I have on my PC. But thanks...
You write fine sonnets in language I only wish I had. And forgive me for being an imbecile/thick-skulled twit, but what kind of ropes would you like to see, and how exactly am I supposed to show them to you? (Yes, still in the metaphor.) Some manual?

Man I love the way that you can just make words come alive!! You are very talented, and thanx for your help on my first peice, it helped a lot. If you ever find the time would you mind gowing over my newest peice of poetry? Well thanx again, your great!!! Keep writing!

Jmas In reply to BlackeningMist [2006-07-05 20:35:49 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! But I'm very far from giving life to words... My imagery is still way too weak.
I'll review it, hopefully tomorrow.
And thanks, I do keep on writing. Though I mainly deal these days with concepts of love, and since I'm so damn inexperienced, there's a long way to go. But hopefully I'll get *there* at some stage. I try to write every day.

Yeah, it comes in handy that Hebrew. High registers, all sounding mystical...

wow! Your work is an example of a styling one doesn't see much of nowadays, especially with DA flooded consistantly with teenage angst suicidal shallow-ish poems. It's refreshing to see that some still write .... my I say ... *cough* old-school (did I say that aloud? SLANG?!!)
Good to see some thoughtful stuff here. Reminiscent is a better word

Jmas In reply to killumall [2006-04-15 21:30:54 +0000 UTC]
Aww! Thanks! I feel flattered. Old-school is definitely a nice academic term to describe my antique style. Then again, I read antique texts, so I guess I get used to it zealously.

probably now you will wonder why in all world i should write something to you. so i found it interesting that you simply criticized the form, and not the contents of my poetry - ummm if you can call it poetry at all, cause i am rather not a poet - and decided to look who the f... is this guy who does things like that. well, and what i see is not bad. your poetry is very good both in form and choice of words.
