aww cheers, no problem! also wanna ask if it's not a bother mate for some drawing advice on motivation! you got some big portraits and artwork on your gallery! I usually draw to a point where I lose interest almost midway through it so cartooning and portraits above the chest are ones I put the most effort in.Β
any advice or tips you could share?

Honestly, I just commit myself. I approach each drawing or painting like I'm using the last piece of paper on Earth and it forces me to take it seriously. I also force myself to finish a drawing before I'm "allowed" to start another. I just started drawing about 3 years ago, and I'll tell you, patience and diligence really do pay off. My best friend is a great artist and I always admired him. The best advice he ever gave me was "draw what you see".

thanks for the advice mate, appreciated. aww man I remember when I used to draw just for the sake of drawing like by that I mean I drew something for me and did not care if anyone notices it. Now I want some like feedback or at the very least someone to notice at what I do. Wish I could go back to that phase, i've managed to achieve that mindset back a couple times though.

It's hard to keep hold of that initial spark of inspiration.

Sure, I first started getting the hang of proportions by using the "grid"method. Take any picture of any anatomy, and either reduce it, or magnify it using the grid method. While it may not be an original concept, it does help establish where things are in relation to other things. I used to use photos of Gymnasts, and tennis players, overlay a grid, and draw them to another piece of paper. It really helped with fore shortening. Once you see it, you'll know where it goes when you venture away from a grid. And practice! Hope this helps

oh man this definitely helps me. I will try the method and your practice on drawing athletes sometime this week perhaps for practice (if i don't get lazy or knackered that is!). I've attempted drawing anatomy via sketches like this work here "rakshmi.deviantart.com/art/Sim⦠". completely appreciate the reply!
p.s. if you search up pictures of "grid method drawing" online, is that what you were referring to?

yep, grid method goes way back. even some of the old "masters" used it
