Think you're thinking of "Mandarin". It's a region in China. I don't know about the mandolin, though. Think it might be either African or Appalachian in origin, but that's just a hunch based on the guitar's origination and the genres mandolins were typically played in.

I think I was. It's actually Italian in origin, Naples specifically. It first appeared in the eighteenth century from what I've read.

Naw, I'm still here. Music and school are just way more time-consuming right now (mostly school -- Junior year = ), so I haven't really had time to do much writing, reading, or browsing on dA.
